Folding mirrors on a MkIV

I think the whole thing with folding mirrors, no matter what Supra it was fitted to, meant that it replaced having heated mirrors - ie, you could have one, but not both.

And as we all live in within the Arctic circle (it seems to be cold enough to me) then I'd hold onto your heated mirrors tight as you can...

I agree that having no heated mirrors can be a pain in the ars*, but the folding mirros are so cool !!!

I have mine connected to my alarm system, and when activated they fold in !  I love it.

I would say if you fancy running the risk of some kids smashing them off on a walk by or some motor completly destroying them then keep the mirrors warm.

Ok .. so I have to keep a sponge and credit card in my pocket.

I must say that the folding mirrors are very different and having them fold in when activating the alarm would be a bonus. Plus, the damn things aren't that cheap if some little swine does decide to knock them off.

Can anyone confirm whether the 'folding'  internals are in the door or the mirror?  (I guees the mirror!!)

Cheers

Well I didn't install them, but as they are not standard (someone is going to put me right here) I would imagine that there is no available space, so as a result my guess would be that they are internal to the mirror.

They are so cool !  You could always get a hair dryer to plug into the ligher port, to heat up those mirrors ! ;)

The motors and mirror are a one-piece unit, the body coloured housing clips on to the motorised assembly, as far as I know.

I have folded them in at speed only to find that one would not open due to air pressure at 140. I have also tried to demist them by folding  them in, did not work.

I'm with Darren on that, i'm fairly sure the heating was linked to the rear heater.

Strangly I thought all supras had the heated mirrors (my SZ does) except the ones with folding mirrors (like my new one). And my money is definatly on heated mirrors!

The folding ones are neat, but thats about it. The heated ones allow you to see properly :)

On a UK car they are defenitely controlled by the rear window heater switch.

So i guess the same for Jap spec with heated mirrors.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram, so that I can remove my old (heated I Think) mirrors that are covered in scratches, and replace them with my new folding mirrors that have no scratches on them. Even if it means wiring them into my alarm, i dont care. Theyve just been sitting in a box for 10 months.

The heating element is built in to the glass so i'm sure it would be possible to fit a heated mirror to a folding mirror case. Just be a case of running some new wires up through the door. BTW the mirrors on my GZ fold manually - i assume they all do, for roadside parking etc
