toyotasuprauk
Back in December I sold my old phone on eBay and the winning bidder was a Nigerian fraudster. It was obviously he was a fraudster, all the normal signs. I posted something on here about it at the time. I contacted eBay at the time and was advised not to go ahead with the transaction etc. Firstly they didn’t even ban the user! Secondly I received my bill from them which I ignored for ages but thought I’d look at today and was charged for two auctions. I contacted them today to ask for the charges for the auction that was ruined to be refunded and was told due as it’s more than 30 days I cant open an Unpaid Item Dispute and my Insertion fees are non-refundable! I did contact them on the same day and got a reply but obviously that isn’t good enough for them! It’s only about £7.50 but it really annoys me that all they care about is making money rather than putting some simple measures in place to make it harder for this to happen. Anyway rant over. I agree and sure as eggs is eggs another compnay (google type) will launch a new improved version and ebay will suffer big time. Now, was that a prediction or just a wish from moi? GeordieSteve
Ebay is pathetic. They refused to remove bad feedback from an obvious scammer (so obvious they disciplined him)

toyotasuprauk
How did u know he wasnt going to pay up?? I said UK bidders only so the guy gave his address as 1 southend, southend to start with. Then said he was working abroad on a special business consignment and wanted me to send the phone to Nigeria for a present to his son (usual crap) and asked for a shipping cost. It was a new eBay account and a yahoo email address. I was so annoyed I said it would be £85 postage which he agreed to! Then for a week he tried to send me fake paypal payments saying he needed me to send it ASAP as it was a present. When I said he was a fraudster and left bad feedback (as eBay kept the account open!) I never heard another thing. I'm pretty fed up with eBay anyway, they are getting like Sky getting the monopoly then running the business with purely profit in mind not giving a damn about the customer. JohnA
They're gonna go down the drain gradually I reckon. Big and arrogant - recipe for decay. Even the inland revenue are now targeting 'habitual' sellers in an effort to mark them as 'trade' and tax them on eBay sales. If asked for credit card details by the authorities, do you think eBay won't oblidge? of course they will. So it will end up as a giant dodgy carboot sale that everybody knows it's festered with fraudsters and undercover cops. In my view, their refusal to stick a big 'red' button on the screen (after you've logged on) where dodgy sellers can be reported is indicative of their priorities (and arrogance)
Rayman
Ebay and paypal:- too many terms and conditions and not enough common sense me thinks! BS
GazzaGSi
Agree with all the above. Sometimes though you cant even rely on UK bidders. I have just sold my component set on there (well about a week ago). A guy won it wil +8 so thought he was new but genuine - still havnt received payment and he is not responding to emails. I think it would work better if they made a joining fee and lower the price of the Final Value Fee as people would not pay to join just to not end up paying something they won - would they? GazzaGSi
Within the time of just writing the above I have just received 2 second chance offers on things I was bidding on yesterday, the 2 winners are now no longer regsitered users... god dam scammers. colsoop
I agree with all the above. The procedure for fraud reporting is terrible,s everal times i have reported scam supras etc, when i eventually found the right contact information and they just sent me back the usual "Thankyou for you for your information we at ebay take fraud extremely seriouslyBUT..... Incidentally i got my blue star yesterday
JohnA
Ebay and paypal:- too many terms and conditions and not enough common sense me thinks! BS He he...you're missing the point:eyebrows: There can never be too many terms & conditions when it comes to wiggling out of one's responsibilities. These are commercial organisations set up to make money. They are not charities, nor an independent Watchdog.
Snooze
Isn't a solution to all the scamming just having an auction site act as the clearing house for funds (and maybe also for the goods themselves)? There is clearly additional costs for running such an operation, but that could be covered by accruing interest on the money while it is sat in clearing? Just an idea. I'm a technical bod, not a business bod. Unfortunately it's going to take either a big brand like Google or a massive amount of marketing investment (or maybe even both) to take any worthwhile market share away from eBay...... toyotasuprauk
My idea is to make it harder to open an account so you cant just rip someone off then start again! You should need to provide an address, and bank details, credit card number to get registered. Then they should send a pin number to your home address and the small joining fee they charge to your credit card should have a reference number before you get an account like paypal does. I feel this would get rid of a huge number of fraudsters, but then ebay wouldnt make as much from listing fees they wont refund!
