tks homer.......and rest of the guys who chimmed in !!

great thread !!

homer, yeah i think 1.2 bar equals to 18psi. i only ran it once at 1.2 but

didnt do it again. i would like to put the first catty to get more back pressure since i am just running w/o any cats at all ! maybe that will help me control the boost better with the greddy profec.

tks again !!!:)

The Profec can only raise boost, it cannot lower it! You do not need a boost controller with a Jspec car (The stock wastegate is too small to handle anything more than stock boost).

To limit boost and avoid spikes you need a restriction in the exhaust, thats why 95% of us whgo have decatted in the UK go for a restrictor ring placed after the first decat pipe. This should keep boost below 1.2 and should not result in any spikes. I've had one of these and constantly get 1.2 bar in the winter and 1.05 bar in the summer, done 2 years (30k miles) like this and its still running perfectly well (one of the lucky ones!).

Putting the 2nd cat pipe back in will have a similar effect, but is not ideal for those wishing to get the maximum out of the standard setup.

You can get a new restrictor ring for a few £ off Chris Wilson (a trader on here), though you may need one custom made dependant on where you're from. What are the temps like where you live - are you likely to drive when its below a few degress C?

Ah, but that is hubs and not wheels. We all know that there is a vast difference between the two.

True, true. You can push stock tubbies more than most people do though, provided you have the correct fueling. 1.2BAR is the limit because of the fueling more than anything else. Of course you're out of the efficiency range but even so.

Anyway, even though I'm the biggest fan of the stock sequential system, even I've given in and am going single now! Although I'm doing it my own way of course...:)

i live in a area were the wheather is like between 62-75 degress right now and

by summer of june/july, we get around 80-90 degress....very hot !!

how much is that restrictor ring in us dollars? any website that i can check?

yeah, i always hit boost spikes....i hate it so much !!

i will get rid of the boost controller. i had it disonnected for 1 week, and i personally think the car ran better w/o it.

Nothing too exciting mate, just going for a Garrett GT35R on one of Arnout's cast manifolds rather than the simple way of just buying a kit. More hassle but worth it I think.

Are you going to get a proper EMS or stick to the E-Manage :tomato: :D

LOL! Think I'm going to upgrade to the Emanage Ultimate, but I may well start off with the one I've got. I'm going to do it in 2 stages, first get all the essentials in and the car running and mapped basically so I can drive it, then change injectors, probably switch to the ultimate, get some proper air ducting to the filter and get it mapped fully on a dyno with the timing done etc. Aiming to get it all done by June hopefully!

Good stuff...and good luck with the project. :)

Also remember that the term 'lag' is used quite liberally.

Some people stick on top gear, try to spin the wheels on startup, and the car bogs down. "oooo, turbo lag" is their first thought.:badidea:

The US/UK turbos have a larger A/R ratio so they are designed to make boost at slightly higher revs. Being metal they can also hold higher boost for prolonged periods without the turbine wheels popping off at the back.

They are neither superior nor inferior to the JSpec turbos, they are different, designed for a different usage pattern (sustained high speeds). Their ECUs come with appropriate adjustments too.

Mine (with minimal tampering) exceed 1 bar at 2.2Krpm, I wouldn't call that "laggy"

As for the wisdom of swapping perfectly good JSpec turbos I agree with the others, it's not worth the effort and cost.
