Getrage 6 spd refurb ????

TRD3000GT

Damn,

I have just had the rattling diagnosed as several things!

I have had,, its the flywheel, Ive also had its in the Gearbox, and Ive also had its the Idle bearing.

I have no idea which it it so back up to JPS to have it looked at soon.

If it is the gearbox or the idle bearing does anyone know where I can get the box repaired?? I dont want to shell out £6000 for a new box thats just crazy. Ive heard of refurbs costing £300 but dont know where to go.

HELP> :moo:

ok, had the car up on a lift. Noise goes when I depress the clutch pedal. So its either the F.W the clutch plate ( I doubt ) or the gearbox.

When looked at today it sounded like the gearbox, just behind the pressure plate.

Someone suggested it was the idle bearing was shot?

Is this possible ? who is the best person to have a look at this for me ??

Chris.

Am I the only one who just waits for something to stop working before I get too concerned.

From what i've read here the gearbox is almost indestructable, and plenty of people have replaced flywheels and bearings etc to reduce their noises. But also people put in lightweight flywheels that rattle, so whilst I accept a standard car rattling is a sign of wear, should we be particularly concerned by a little noise if the gearboxes operation is fine?

from http://www.mkiv.com/faq/faqtt.html#transmission3

3. my 6-speed transmission makes a rattling sound at low speeds – should i worry?

all supra 6-speeds seem to make that sound, which has been likened to shaking a bunch of ball bearings around in a coffee can. it is not a cause for alarm - all the 6-speeds make the sound. it is the flywheel damping springs rattling, not the design of the transmission dogs. if your transmission shifts smoothly and doesn't pop out of gear, don't worry about it.

I get the same noise also on ignition off as well as slow speeds - if I depress the clutch and turn the ignition off it is not present - it hasnt got any worse and hasnt caused any detromental affects on the operation of the gearbox - I was told by others that its nothing to worry about - im gonna try and find that thread:conf:

I know they do a upgrade for the NA 5 speed where you replace a few parts inside the Tranny and it can withstand 800bhp or something stupid like that.

Paul

No offence, but, the NA 5 Speed couldn't be further removed from the 6 speed Getrag unit. Not worth comparing.

Its the flywheel. Just get a new Toyota one. They are fairly cheap and at least you know it will work!

Chris all 6 speed boxes are noisey but strong. Are you saying it didn't do it before either clutch change. I know tha Suprastore supplied you with a brand new OEM FW so it shouldn't be that. It may be the RPS clutch plate. I honestly wouldn't worry.

Terry,

problem is that it is not just a light chatter, it can get very loud! I was told that when I go back to OEM flywheel everything would be solved but that does not seem to be the case.

Anyway I have just spoken to Leon and he is going to have the car in next week and fix the problem.

The reason this needs to be done is because I am selling the car after christmas and need everything Perfek!

It does sound suss, but it may well be a bad clutch plate or pressure plate causing the noise. I am sure it's not box related.

Gaz you a Copper:innocent:
