cookci
To get the most out of my auto has anyone got any tips? for example i dont understand why i would want to use the manu button (manual gear mode??) because surely i can force my car to stay in everyone of the 4 gears without the need for this button... why i use it in third (D) it also seems to limit the revs to around 5,000 and when i switch the mode off it starts accelerating again! :S and whats the best way to launch the car for quickest performance? use 1st (L) or leave it in drive? would it damage anything by keeping my foot flat to the floor changing from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th? please help me its my first auto! Scoboblio
and whats the best way to launch the car for quickest performance? Do a quick search for power braking matey, should give you some good results
cookci
Ive tried searching round. does that mean holding the revs at say 2,000 in drive with left foot firmly on the brake then let go off brake and floor at same time? i tried this a couple of times at 3k revs and it didnt seem work too well... :S
RedM
Manu is pretty good for holding in gear on slippery rounabouts and the like. Your Supra will change gear on you despite your best efforts and when you least want it too. Boot it off a damp r/about and the kickdown could spin you. Being in manual helps a lot, I have found. Manual also helps to give a better engine brake. As for starts. Foot to floor and hope the tyres bite.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. You've bought a 300 odd bhp supercar, and you're asking how to drive it? Ok the MANU button is for gear hold. Or so you can use the gear stick to change gear like a MANUal, bit without the clutch. Using MANU in D is especially good for country road blasts as you will have more engine braking. When the car is in D the car will accelerate through the gears how quick depends on the load you put on the engine and when you lift off the accelerator the car should (depending on speed which is about 20mph or so maybe a bit less) drop into O/D and the revs will drop. This is due to the action of the TC. It wont do that if you are in MANU or L or 2. As for power braking. Perhaps you should get to know your car more, get used to the autobox because if you're trying to powerbrake from the lights on a public road and you are holding it for some time, you will FRY your box, and I can envisage now in 2 months time some thread from you along the lines of "my autobox is fucked please help". TBH if you want a quick getaway just plant your right foot. BTW the search button is your friend. Enjoy.
GeordieSteve
Tip number 1) Don't press the brake with your left foot

peter richards
i leave mine in d all the time , but if i want quicker acceleration is it best to click o/d off , and then floor it . not that i do this often , but floored it the other day and fuck all happened ,at first and then wooosh ,just seemed a bit slow to pick up
RedM
Off the line I find OD make no difference at all. It's only when it gets to the point that OD would kick in do I feel a difference. Another way of getting quick acceleration is to have your stereo up high and forget the you were in MANU 2nd. You might then find that, when the road clears, you boot it with both turbos already going. I think I impressed everyone around me that day and damn near crapped myself. cookci
The stock torque converter won't let you rev to 3k in gear at a standstill does that mean mine is broken then? In drive in gear it will go at least 3 thousand revs :S cheers christian
VIL
This works on a turbo but might not on a NA? As your driving along slow speeds etc, (overdrive on) if you want to boot it and get kick down and loads of oomph, quickly `blip` the throttle and then plant it. On the turbo the tubs quickly spool up at the same time the box kicks down! Certain to put a smile on your face!
