Auto Questions

In manual mode you have three forward gears.

Select first and it will say there to the red line. You have to be careful because it will hit rev limit very quickly. You change gear as you want to, as in a manual, changes are faster than the box can manage in auto so in theory the car will accelerate faster than in auto mode.

Manual is the essential mode for the track as it gives engine braking.

Q Wilson..... landrovers......Dubai....... Barkin! you've  lost me on that one!

Cheers for the answers tho!

Got some quotes for ins today... quite cheap IMO, not cheap, just cheaper than thought!!

I was quoted 2400 for an Impreza STi IV TypeR (was going to buy it originally.... but looked kinda lame next to the supra)

quoted 1870 for the Supra....

I've just dug out my users manual and this is what is says :-

In 'Normal' mode

D - Uses gears 1-4

O/D off - Uses gears 1-4

2 - Uses gears 1-2 (Strong engine brake)

1 - Uses gear 1 (Strongest engine brake for going down Extreme slopes)

In 'Manu' mode

D -  Uses gears 2-3

2 - Uses gear 2

If the transmission oil gets too hot the MANU indicator light will flash for a few seconds and then go out and the transmission will revert to normal auto.

And for showing just how loud a Hiper without CATS is, the rumbling and popping on the over-run is so difficult to achieve in Drive mode!

Perhaps there should be a new section in FAQ's about what you can and can't do and what wear it puts on things - With a huge disclaimer that YMMV as to how and when things break and also only do on your own private airfield etc etc. ;)

Mate had a TransAm GTA (5.7 V8) and could do MASSIVE wheelspins by chanding to N at about 30, flooring the throttle and then dropping it into D.  The 4th or 5th time the engine bounced off the rev limiter as the car coasted to a halt.  The diff had disintegrated internally.....  Bleedin' hooligan :)
