jackso11
I have just found a guy to regas my air con. He hasn't seen my car yet but reckons it will be £90 as it is it used the old R12 gas and not the new R134a, he charges £60 for the R134a regas. Is this right? He says he can tell from the age. My car is a '93 which I understand was the year cars started using R134a, however I thought all MKIVs had R134a?
JohnA
Don't think so dude, I bet your supra uses R134a
jackso11
Thats what I think, I don't see that they would change the whole system one year after the cars release. Anyone know of a good place to get a regas areound finsbury park? or any where in london? What can I look at that will let me know what gas I have in? imi
There should be a sticker underneath the bonnet telling you what gas is in the car.... Isnt it surprising that the customer always seems to need the more expensive stuff....
JohnA
The marketing blurb when the MKIV range was introduced explicitly said that it uses R134a. That guy is full of shite, and he might damage the aircon pump seals if he uses the wrong juice.
TLicense
Incidentally, my local Mr T won't re-gas mine as, again "it uses a different gas to a UK spec". No truth in this I take it?

Yeah...probably Kryton based....seriously though...just because some items on the EPC have different part numbers doesnt necessarily mean that they are not the same.. JohnA
It should say on a label if you lift the bonnet. The Toyota stuff I've read refer to the US/Euro spec, so you'd have to double-check for imports. Even so, would Toyota use different aircon parts on their domestics?
