oilman
The Redline GL5 is a good one for the diff. In the engine, go for a 10w-50 to stay on the safe side. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx The Nanodrive CFS is, on paper, the best oil available, but the Pro S and CFS are both really good oils, so all are good choices for your car. mellonman
Hi could you please clear something up for me its about dextron ii,iii,iv,v i have read that the they back replace each other so we could put dextron v in the auto box and would be the same as the ii (the oil used over 15 years ago). is that the case? oilman
Yes and no. According to my info, the pre-1993 Supras can use a Dexron II, from 2003 onwards they need a Toyota Type 4 ATF. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60163-fuchs-titan-atf-4400-automatic-transmission-fluid-for-japanese-cars.aspx http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1052-amsoil-synthetic-automatic-transmission-fluid-atf.aspx http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60226-millers-oils-millermatic-atf-sp-iii.aspx Those are all meet the Type 4 spec, so are fine to use, but they are all also Dexron III or higher approved, so are fine in earlier Supras. The only real problem in using a higher spec Dexron oil where a II or III and a Dexron VI is used. Usually it's okay, but Dexron VI oils are a little thinner than II or III. firin Supra
Hi im new to the oils and what grades they are and what we should use but could sumone help me. Iv got a 94 uk supra tt with 103k on the clock bpu and only drive it on sundays now its due for a oil change but iv always used millers 10w 40 i was told that is the best. Now iv been in to a local part place where i normally get my oil from and they have suggested that i use carlube 10w 40! i change the engine oil every 4k miles and the oil filter aswell so they question is is that ok? The guy also explaind to me and said if your changing your oil that frequently your better with the carlube and that you would be wasting your money with the rest because its just as good. Finally the last question is what ngk spark plugs are recommended for bpu? cheers guys love the hard work you guys are putting in!
oilman
He sells the Carlube, of course it's the best. I guess I'm biased towards higher end oils, but they do give the best protection. I guess the oil they are recommending is a 10w-40 semi and that is a pretty basic choice, a 5w-40 full synthetic is a better choice, even if it's not one of the top end ones, something like the Fuchs Supersyn is an upgrade over the Carlube without breaking the bank. I'd use these plugs http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-63603-ngk-spark-plug-bkr7eix-opie-ref-2667.aspx Cheers Tim
neil tt
Just trying to find out which is the correct oil for the A343E gearbox, I have already got Dextron lV, but now been told should be dextron ll, or does it matter, many thanks
oilman
According to my data, you need an oil that meets the Toyota Type II or higher spec. I would go for either the Amsoil ATF, Motul Multi ATF, Fuchs ATF4400 or Millers Millermatic ATF SPIII. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-442-atfs.aspx Cheers Tim
neil tt
Sorry but would lV be okay, because I already have this, sorry I didn't know I couls use anything else but Dextron
oilman
Probably, but unless it also meets the T-II/III/IV spec, I can't 100% guarantee it's correct. Cheers Tim

I assume it's the toyotas own stuff. Cheers Marcus
oilman
Hi Marcus It will mix fine with the fluid that's in there, unless someone has put in something really odd already. Cheers Tim

Kaan W
Does anyone know if Toyota type IV transmission fluid is suitable for a built auto box? If not what fluid is best to use?

I use this in my autobox, its the equivalent to the Toyota stuff. get it from Opie, it's not dear, but bear in mind you'll need a bit extra for the gearbox coolers you've got. oilman
We've got the Amsoil ATF, Millers SPIII and Fuchs ATF4400 that you can use instead of the Type IV fluid. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1432-atfs-automatic-transmission-fluid.aspx Cheers Tim
Kaan W
Cheers guys i'll probably need about 8L i'll have a look now, thanks
dan294
Its 10 litres for a full flush I think, so if the box is empty you'll need that plus extra for the gearbox coolers. I needed an extra litre or litre and a half when I had the quick 2 litre change done, including 1x SRD cooler to fill.

Yeah thats what I was thinking but my new box already has some new oil in it as it leaked all over me when I carried it accross my living room... 8L should do I reckon.
