veilsideTT
you need an original workshop manual!
mr keef
First time was with engine out as i was putting in a new short block, yeh your right it was a piece of piss with it out. Second time i was only doing a head gasket and i had the pleasure of my knuckles meeting "those f**cking turbo nuts" You know, i think it may be "quicker" to take the engine out to just remove the head.....seriously! (if you have the crane of course) Pull the loom through the firewall & dump it on the top of the engine. Fan and rad out, 2 big mounting bolts, take the box too (remove prop & mount), fuel lines, few wires and connectors, zorst. Bobs your uncle....fanny is your aunt! lol you make it sound sooooo easy
veilsideTT
I seriously don't believe that removing the supras engine and gearbox is that big of a job if you take it in one go. I started it on my own at around 10am on a Saturday and it was out by 4pm. my old man gave me a hand right at the end for the final "heave ho" Bear in mind this was my first attempt and i'm not a mechanic or anything. Don't get me wrong, you have to be mechanically minded, but not a brain surgeon or anything. Just my 2pence anyhow. It helps to have all the right gear. my old man has about 10 of everything you can imagine in his garage, Thats what you get for 20 years of lossing stuff, buying a new one, then finding the old one! StuartW
Sooooo much easier with the Engine out Yes Single is the way to go! Or big twins! I Have just climbed out of my engine bay. Remove the rad and the fan and you can stand in front of the engine right over it...Much better for your back. Pete
Erm, thanks. Do you realise this thread is nearly one year old? Nothing wrong with that. I'd encourage more people to carry on older threads rather than start new ones harping on about the same old nonsense.
jevansio
Just removing my cylinder head, following workshop manual, does anyone have any tips for prising the head from the block, it seems stuck pretty tight
Kirk
Be a man and heave! Its scrap anyway so get a pry bar in from some angle and lift! Just so happens ive just finished stripping my spare head almost at the same time you posted
d_d
A Soft Hammer maybe, mine came straight off, presume you have taken out all head bolts/nuts ,If you have arp Studs then take them out to make it easier.

Yeah all nuts off, it's arp studs, might pull them out then
Scooter
there is a designated prying spot where there is a notch in the head directly above the block surface.........can't remember exactly where near one corner and on the side i think.... Yeah the workshop manual says use a screwdriver there, it's going to need a big screwdriver
TLicense
Or any kind of pry bar, but that's where you want to pry if you can. Remember there are locating dowels (which IIRC are located near the area's where you're supposed to pry it) that will prevent any horizontal movement so it's got to be a near vertical lift. Kev.O
You can just make out the dowels in this picture Jay:
Ian C
Use a bit of wood pushed against the underside of the front cam journals, and clobber it with a claw hammer. That should shock it loose. Then lift vertically and mind your back, it's a heavy bugger!
JamieP
Id leave the head on it and pull it out in one Jay, the block has to come out and all anyway.
TLicense
Ah yes, I hadn't put 2 and 2 together to realise you were pulling the whole block. If so, as Jamie says, leave the head on as you can use the hooks on the head to lift it with.
jevansio
OK cheers guys, yeah the block is coming out too
