TrickTT
Think i've picked up a virus on my laptop. Its got Norton antivirus 2005 (updated regularly), but when (if) it starts up, i get strange stripes/odd pixels on the desktop, and a sort of ghosting effect where any closed windows were. It runs slow, and then locks up completely after about 10mins. I've run the hardware diagnostic from the BIOS screen (no problems shown), but I cant get anywhere with Windows (safe mode or normal). Question is, how do I find/remove the virus if I cant get into Windows or run the Norton software to fix it? Don't know if this is related but the wife says she got a strange page appear whilst on Ebay yeterday, something to do with updating browser settings, she says. Any help would be appreciated cos my Clifford wizzard software and lead arrived yesterday and I want to play!!
geoffvalenti
You could try a sytem restore (if you're running XP or ME) and roll the system back a couple of days. If that doesn't work you'll need to make an anti virus boot floppy from another computer (via the antivirus program) with up to date virus patterns and use this to start and scan your machine. Then ditch Norton and use something better like McAfee (but TBH, anything is better than Norton ATM)

Lewis
nope, the software does a good job but it is resource hungry. Use norton corporate instead
Supra-Dupra
can you access administrator in safe mode ?? If so download AVG FREE anti virus it detects more than that shitty norton(as above corporate is ok) and its free lol, run it in safe mode and check the startup items via msconfig (tyre msconfig in the run option untick all blank options) then do a avg scan then again. Supra-Dupra
Also maybe stop explorer.exe from running and run a virus check as some attach to it and wont delete while it runs !

Dash Rendar
Sounds like your graphics card might be overheating or otherwise playing up. Or perhaps not getting enough power. Changed any hardware lately?
