peter richards
hi guys , just taxed the car today , after getting the mot done this morning .£90.70 6 mths . iam not sure about the scale of charges , i think it goes on engine size . which is probably why its the above figure . the car passed the emisions test with ease , the tester said the figures were very low . the point iam trying to make is these small cars that all seem to pump out blue smoke obviously pay less tax but the emisions must be higher i think the price should be set on emisions results not engine size . few got that of my chest . lol . :p
Rob
I think...think mind, not know:) that new cars are based on a CO2 scale, but the older ones are based on engine cc. Perhaps you should have bought a smaller engined car if you are to complain about VED. Just joking by the way, not having a dig at you really. Barry
Cars under 1400cc are in the lower tax bracket, anything above and they sting you for almost double. I use my car about once a week, and do around 30-50 miles on average. If the yearly cost is £180, then it costs me almost £3.50 each time I take my car out the garage! Personally I'd like to see it scrapped and it calculated on the amound of miles you do. Or, you should be given the choice of paying per mile or a one off yearly charge. lust2luv
Calculated on the amount of miles you do? NOOOOOO! Not having a government black box in my car monitoring where (and how fast!) I go! As for the cost of road tax, if it's too much for you, and you like a performance car, buy an RX7!

I dont agree with the black box thing, just add it to the cost of petrol (well, not that it isn't high enough already.!). Its not too high, I just dont pay it. far
Calculated on the amount of miles you do? NOOOOOO! Not having a government black box in my car monitoring where (and how fast!) I go! They wouldn't necessarily need the black box, they could just get the details from your MOT certificate on an anual basis
Need4Speed
Barry - Get the car out and drive it. I have enough trouble keeping my mileage down to 12000 a year!

I cant John, I get the train to work every day, dont ever go anywhere in the evening that justifies getting the sup out the garage. Weekends I'm usully suffering a hangover most of either sat or sunday morning. In the last 11-12 months I've done about 2000 miles. I just dont see it as a car that 'needs' to come out just to pop to town and park in a multi-story car park and get scratched dented and risk being broken into or worse still, stolen. So I use the wife's Citroen AX. It'll be out tonight for my 18 mile round trip to play football, then back in the garage and not out again until the weekend, if at all.! I'd love to drive it more but just dont seem to have the time (or need)! To be totally honest, I cant remember the last time I brought a tax disk? Must have been about 7+ years ago. peter richards
hi guys , sorry if i misslead you , iam not bothered about the fact that the price is 90 squid , it was an emisions thingy i was on about . my soops emisions are nice and low , = enviromentaly friendly . i do less than 4k a year , so iam not contributing to as much road damage . i agree with far , a simple check of mot cert , and emisions test then re evaluate the charges on the result . cheers peter .
