Miguel
I honestly dont know the full problems with said car so i cant comment. Supras are generaly solid and yes the younger car may be sweeter and " better nick" either way its not going to be a straight swap. Supras cost money to maintain whether they are 98 or 01 . What "IF" the 01 turns out to have problems a year down the road same situation again. Like i say i dont know the car but i cant see a 98 being that bad that it would make me chop it in for a newer one ( it would have to be major work for me to even think it) but thats just me. It may well be simplicity to sell the 98 and buy one thats good and worry about any problems later on if they arise ....swings and roundabouts. Just my opinion:giveup:

jot_ie
Ask for a longer test drive ie a day. Drive it home and swap the suspension over and the wheels with the help of a mechanic obviously. Best of both worlds I'm sure they won't notice. This I couldn't do. I would not sleep at night . If it was a 2002 model I would say without hesitation do the swap. One thing I will say is this. Beware of falling into the trap of thinking that your car is "worth" X amount. Until you have X amount in your pocket for the car its not worth that much. I've discovered this to my detriment when trying to sell my car that AFAIK is worth £14k but hasn't sold at that so I have to accept significantly less. If it was a 2002 model it would be sitting in my driveway long ago. Maybe that in itself tells its own story. Also that lasty part is very good advice. I have probably overestimated the value of my own. As you say, its a trap thats easy to fall into. The new one is a garage sale, with warranty (6 months maybe). They may take mine as a trade in. Then its their problem. There is that but lets be real here. How many people on here have had a dodgy handling 1998 supra with problems? I'd hazard a guess at none. These cars usually just don't go wrong. His one I would chalk down as an anomoly sort of herbies nemesis (ie a car thats meant to be brilliant being crap instead of like herbie the other way round) There are a couple. I seem to have all the symptoms http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=55465&highlight=wiggle http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=41646&highlight=wiggle The car wiggles at the rear and drifts to the right. Front tyres wearing really badly on the insides. From new to bald in 6 months. In windy conditions the front end feels realy light and ready to let go I have had 4 wheel laser alignment done 3 times last year and once manually by a race garage. Still the same. I could replace the suspension and bushes, currently talking to Nic in this regard. And then take the car to Chris for sorting out etc. This is a post i put up last year. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=42715&highlight=wiggle Since that I have had the alignment done again, and been told the car is "perfect". Currently I think the decision is swinging toward the "keep" side. My wife and kids think the silver looks better. After all this the final decision may very well be down to something as simple as this. lol I appreciate all your input guys John
dangerous brain
So basically you are saying that every time you go to get the alignment done on your car its changed? Now that just aint right. Alignment is nuts and bolts stuff. Once the locknuts are done up they shouldn't move. So unless you go round bending suspension parts and tearing bushes up (on a 98 car unless you offroad the bloody thing I really can't see it) then the alignment should be the same when you go back if you use the same place again that is. Now 18"s will tramline and follow the road. If its really bumpy the car will get knocked off course. But constantly wiggle around the road????? Not sure about that. Almost sounds like the steering may have problems if it just goes all over the place instead of in one set direction under certain circumstances. That said if the doods doing your alignments aren't locking any of the stuff up then that would also not help
Jspec Germany
Mine does this as well and it drives me nuts! It's just the rear end that "wiggles/shimmies" back and forth. Have changed tires four times and it still does it. Two alignments and have had the subframe bolts torqued at a Toyota dealer, then rechecked them twice myself. Any ideas?
