D8MOA
can someone tell me why imports need a restrictor ring to lower there boost while uk cars need a EBC to raise the boost?
lambertpig
because as far as i know uk cars have a larger waste gate which can safely limit boost while jap cars have the boost restriction in the cat/exhaust been looking to bpu my uk spec so think im right
Matt Harwood
It's because the JDM cars have ceramic turbos which are much lighter/easier to spin than the UK steel turbos. Without the cats causing a restriction, the JDM's ceramics car pretty much spin 'till they break. The advantage of ceramic turbos is that they will spool up earlier making the JDM car 'feel' more responsive that the UK with it's slower spooling steel turbos. The disadvantage is that the ceramic turbos are weaker than steel, and easier to kill. HTH.
Homer
Its my understanding that both the above posts are correct, although I thought its a lot more to do with wastegate efficiency than turbo spool.
