Dash Rendar
It seems my turbo has been p1ssing oil around my engine for some time and has caused serious carbon deposits. I've been advised to have an engine rebuild. I've also been offered a free set of HKS 272 cams. My car will be BPU with hybrids at 1.2 bar. Would it be a good move to go with the 272s or should I stick with stock? I hear people saying stuff like idle is lumpy, but how lumpy is lumpy??! Are there any other downsides to such an upgrade? Please bear in mind that I don't know much about engines...
b_have
Waaaaay to much cam for hybrids. Infact, I would say way too much for road use but sure someone will dissagree

Dash Rendar
Thanks all. I'm now wondering if I can get away with not doing the engine rebuild at all. Details are here.
JohnA
they hybrids are gonna have backpressure not too much less than stock. ...so I'd stick to stock cams, or MILD aftermarket ones if you're desperate to 'upgrade'

paul mac
all you will do with cams that wild is push the power further up the rev range for not very much gain with your set up (this is probably why your getting them for free), i made 510 RWHP on a set of UK cams
Clarkey
i made 510 RWHP on a set of UK cams Speaking about UK cams. Are they plug & play on a J-Spec ? And what are the advantages of UK cam's over J-Spec ones ? Ta.
Matt Harwood
Speaking about UK cams. Are they plug & play on a J-Spec ? And what are the advantages of UK cam's over J-Spec ones ? Ta. Very slightly higher lift on UK inlet cam. Exhaust is the same
Clarkey
Very slightly higher lift on UK inlet cam. Exhaust is the same Sorry Matt .. In layman's terms what does that mean ? When you say "very slightly" is it worth doing to a J-Spec ? Appologies for the slight hijack.

paul mac
Speaking about UK cams. Are they plug & play on a J-Spec ? And what are the advantages of UK cam's over J-Spec ones ? Ta. from what i can gather the uk cam is worth about 10 hp on the top end which is one of the reasons the uk spec is more powerfull (allegedly) i cant verify this as the cams went on with a shit load of other gear so i dont know exactly how much they contribute to the overall power, at 1.4 bar boost my car is as fast as i really want from a road car and i very rarely use 1.4 anyway, the more extreme the cam the more lag you will experience as they push the power band further up the rev range, i make boost at 2700-2800 rpm and i would'nt add anything that would push that up for the sake of another 10 hp at the top end, if you can pick a set up for peanuts (like i did) give em a go Clarky
