The :repost: smilie is used very often, maybe sometimes too often.

Not everybody has the amount of time on their hands to read all posts so if something is posted twice is a great crime?

Sometimes the title put in is different to the original post and may entice different members to read it, who didn't see it first time around.

But it seems that some people take a great pleasure in posting up that's it's a repost.

Doea anybody else think that the repost smilie should be scrapped or are you in favour of 'putting down' members because they put up a thread that they believe is either new or helpful and yet get some eagle eyed member shooting them down. It possibly puts them off posting again.

And yes before you say it I have used the smilie before but i've now had a change of heart and won't again - unless it's x, y or z that do a repost ;)

Very true, they also type it in large letters.

I've refrained from doing it !

I'd say that a bit more tolerance is needed for people who repost.... I'm sure we've all done it now and again and the majority of the threads posted are done so for what the poster believes is the good of the forum.... it's not nice to then be looked upon as vermin because someone else has beaten you to it :)

I know that it's never actually vindictive but new joiners may not understand.

I've never used either the smilie or made a repost comment (AFAIK, and the above reply of course) but I agree it's irritating.

Recently I put up some pics from my hard disk as I was clearing it out and that got a repost comment. I thought people might like them, so I bunged them up, what's the value in adding that they've been posted before?

The latest 'trend' seems to be to put 'RE' 'PO' and 'ST' in seperate replies. Wow, how clever.

Overall though I just find it irritating and pointless, but I couldn't really say I care about it! Bit of a 'shrug shoulders' one really. It seems to happen a lot more recently than ever before, and I don't think it adds the slightest bit of value to the forum, but... hey ho.

If the same thing is like two threads down the list, e.g. with the gilette advert, then yes, repost away. For instance, I was about to post up about Envy's article in Japanese Performance as I just got it delivered, but I checked first because I'm not the only one on the planet to subscribe. Turns out Pete had already posted a thread so I replied to it instead.

But if someone posts something from a few weeks ago or even years ago I'm like "FFS who cares if you've seen it before you tosser".

But I don't think the smiley should be removed. It's like government ffs - ban the smiley because some people misuse it, oh yes, that's always the right solution that is.

PS didn't vote as I don't agree with the addendum to the only "no" option...

Any times I have :repost:ed someone, I have done it in good humour, and would hope that the poster would realise this and take it in the way it was intended, As a humourous post.

If people feel that it is irritating then I'll stop.

anyway how else am I supposed to post whore :D ?

I'll go with the consensus of the poll, but won't be voting my self.

But I'm right though, aren't I?

Yup, biggest load of knee jerk BS I've ever seen. I even heard that shortly after the ban came into effect a group of gangsters had a gunfight involving M16 assault rifles.... but this wasn't counted in the governments gun crime stats as since the ban they'd been changed to only monitoring handgun crime :conf:

Anyway back on topic, as this is a :repost: :p
