Pete
and look cool Is this really a priority? Maybe we need to invest in some research into 'cooler' looking cases if people feel this way in general.

nickyboy
I picked up my laptop on ebay for £350 - has DVD and CD player and writer, reasonable spec and storage, good speakers but can be plugged into external speakers like a desktop would be if desired.... So ebay's a good place to start... unless you want a brand new one BTW I've got an apple desktop for sale if anyone's interested. One massive thing to beware of is that loads of the prices do not include Microsoft Office and this is expensive!

Pete
I'd not heard of Geode before : http://www.amd.com/us-en/ConnectivitySolutions/ProductInformation/0,,50_2330_9863,00.html It's an integrated board/cpu for very cheap thin client systems. This explains why you seem to get so much for your money. Our entry level CPU is AMD2600+ - that's a 1750. Ok if you can live with binning it when it's running too slow. It'll run windows and office ok, but don't expect to play any future games on it.

Dont know if its any good though, all numbers to me, give me an internal cunbustion engine, or a ventilation system to design any day LOL On the Aries, we used to have them all here in the office, mainly HP now, but they seemed OK:shrug:

GeordieSteve
Looks pretty good to me. Hard drive isn't huge but if you need to upgrade it's very cheap these days. Bought from them before and gave them good feedback
Pete
On the Aries, we used to have them all here in the office, mainly HP now, but they seemed OK:shrug: Maybe things have changed. I used to work for EliteGroup (motherboard manufacturer) that supplied them. You should've seen how many boards we got back. Most damaged by their incompetent assembly line. caliAl
Can't really go wrong with http://www.dell.co.uk + you get reasonably good after sale support.
nickyboy
Can't really go wrong with http://www.dell.co.uk + you get reasonably good after sale support. True, and you can build your desired spec online. But normally by the time you have added on Office and your peripherals it comes to quite a big number. jonshaw_uk
theres no operating system or anything with the pc on ebay so when you get it you would have to install windows xp and anything else yourself dell are top machines but when you start adding on the little extras the price goes right up £23.50 for a floppy disk drive and £23.50 for a card reader is ridiculosly expensive.
