Rahile
hi i'm the new guy. can anyone help i have what most people would call the newer clear front indicators(in bumper). only thing is they are only clear when looked at a certain angle. side on yes they are clear, but straight on they are not. well the outer lens is clear, the bulb is clear but inside there is another amber lense. what i want is true CLEAR indicators - Help one solution would be to buy clear bulbs which flash amber wedge type KOITO 12V 21W (W21W) from http://www.silverfusion.co.uk who will be stocking them in about 4/5 weeks time, and to remove somehow the amber lens? any ideas? i have tried the search. michael
Sounds a bit strange, I've not seen any lenses like that, do you have any pictures? One thing you could do is fit the silver bulbs that flash orange but this still won't sort out these 'orange lenses' you have. For reference these are my clear lenses from ProCarParts in the US, fitted with normal amber bulbs at the moment, saving up for the silver ones http://www.megaboost.co.uk/misc/car.jpg (suspension doesn't normally sit that high on the front, I was parked in a bizarre way in half a ditch )

Leon's lenses are clear. I thought the clear fronts with the amber inserts were the 98+ Toyota ones. Either you sell the ones you have an buy the fully clear ones from Leon or try and open Toyota ones somehow and remove the offending amber lense...... Good luck with the latter
albundy68
clear with amber insert indicators were on all facelift supes. Ive had mine out to take a look, if anyone works out a way to remove the amber bit i'd like to know about it. Problem with buying a new set of clears is they cost £100+ expensive when the facelift ones are allmost clear anyway. Carefull with buying bulbs for imports as well, cant speak for all jap supes, but mine uses different bulb fittings for all indicators, making the aquisition of sliver(with yellow flash) bulbs a bit of a nightmare! Paul Laing
Mine that i got from Titanmotorsports are genuine toyota ones from the facelift models, but are totally clear and have no amber plastic in them. Just the orange bulbs till i can get round to ordering some Silver ones. Mine were a right pain to fit though, had to file back the plastic where the bulb goes in as the hole was too small And also i had to buy different orange bulbs, as the ones i got with it were different. I'll post some pics eventually..... Paul
far
2 points here 1 - Bought Clear indicators for my 'lude they had orange inserts - the inserts are attached to the inside of the lense housing - I removed these by using a soldering iron and melting the connecting points (through the hole where the bulb holder fits)and break down the orange bits into smaller pieces - then using some long nosed plyors to pull out the orange bit through the bulb hole- BE CAREFULL this needs plenty of patience - the 'lude indicators are longer and bigger than the sup ones so it may be even harder doing this for a sup. 2 - A cheaper alternative to getting silver bulbs which shine orange is buying "heat proof spray paint" in silver.Mask the bulb completley apart from the tip which faces out from the indicator, spray this part only - the orange affect which is seen through the clear lense is masked by the silver paint but they still light the indicator orange when activated as the remainder of the bulb(which is not directly visible through the clear lense) is still orange and this colour reflects in the indicator housing - this works particularly well on side indicators but im sure the same principle can be adopted for fronts - the orange may not be 100% orange but is still shines very orange - enought to get through an MOT
Rahile
thanks for the replies. what i will do is remove the internal amber lens, probably knock it out with a screwdriver or something, then buy the silver bulbs(flash amber) and pop them in. getting the bulb is not a problem as previously mentioned silverfusion.co.uk sells them, only the one i need will take about 4 weeks. the bloke at silver fusion told me the bulb will be a W5W wedge type, but after checking it's the W21W bigger. apparently these are now fitted as standard on the new jap cars 2002/2003. hence thats why they are getting them manufactured. by the way the lenses i do have are original toyota jobs, some people have said that they are fitted on 98 cars, but mine is 96' ----------------------- one other thing i would like to mention is that i have just taken delivery of my new glass headlights (chrome inside) from Mr T look the business. i paid £260 inc. Vat. without bulbs as i will prob. fit PIAA Jobs (any suggestions which are the best) there's a motor on them for electric adjustment, can be wired up seen installation intructions on the net somewhere. my jap lights were plastic with a greyish inside later painted black when i done the oven treatment plastic polish etc. thing is these have a place for indicators in them aswell, which on the back says W5W will i be able to get the bulb holders from Mr T and pop em in? and the connetion can that be taken from the indicators in the bumper is that safe to do? suppose then i will have 2 sets of indicators on the front, will that look right? or ignore it and cover the holes with something? Rahile
Originally posted by far Mine has side lights in that housing not indicators hi again just thought i would mention, i called my friendly Toyota dealer he told me that lower holder is indeed for indicators WEIRD! if i put a bulb in there either for indicators or side lights i'll need bulb holders which are £8+vat each. even if decide to put nothing in there then i would have to block the hole with something, dunno what to do? you what i might just order the buggers, i mean i've gone to the expense of buying new glass headlights etc. might aswell. i've been checking out, most new cars now have the indicators built into the headlights anyway. never ending is it? albundy68
reccon your toyota dealers wrong Rahul, (it happens, trust me!!!) supras have never had indicators in their headlights, the lights youre thinking of are deffinately sidelights, theyre in there coz the pre facelift UK supes didnt have sidelights incorporated into their front indicators like the facelifts, so you could end up with 4 sidelights if you wanted, if not, just dont hook them up. £250 was that for each glass headlight without bulbs or for both??? Managed to get 10% discount. Total paid inc. vat. was £262.20 (Western Toyota Edinburgh) part no. without bulbs LH 81170-1B210 RH 81130-1B210
toyotasuprauk
I would have thought £260 would have been for both the glass headlights. If you give the part numbers for the shell rather than the assembly then as far I can tell you get the exact same thing without the bulbs which Toyota charge about £45 for each side for! I think that's a lot for bulbs especially if your fitting PIAA bulbs (whatever they are) like Rahul says.
