rpslaughter1982
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie in search of buying a supra. Just after someones opinion/ experience. How many miles are the supras good for? What are peoples thoughts of buying one with 100k+ miles (import)? If the engine did go, does anyone know the cost of a re-build? Mnay thanks for any replies
Whitesupraboy2
well 120,000 Miles here and going strong dont know what that is in kilometres. Ive heard of one for sale with roughly 250k on it before
Homer
So long as its been properly serviced it should be good for 300k+, I know a couple that are over 200k and going strong. The thing most likely to be worn is the turbos (budget £1k), a bottom end rebuild on a supra is extremely rare, its mainly done by those going for big power (600bhp+)
penguin
mines going to touch the 100k miles milestone soon.... and she pulls like a train...
Sharpie
100k+ club here still going strong btw - 120k miles is 193k KM
supRo
Welcome. I'm just over 100K, going strong too. Second hand stock turbos are anything from £200 - £400 + fitting Not sure about costs for a rebuild.
Simon K
107K miles, brought it with 21K miles 3 years ago. The only thing that ever went wrong with my one was a broke drivers window cable. Servicing is the key issue. I always use toyota parts, and change my gearbox oil every 10K. (auto) SBK
nickyboy
you do 30k in a Supra every year?!! you nutter!
Alex
A complete replacement bottom end is about £2k....so it doesn't cost the earth even if it does go.
Dnk
What would a new uk engine cost, any ideas ? Fully built with head so you could just swap all the ancillaries over rather than rebuild your worn out one. dunk
Alex
What would a new uk engine cost, any ideas ? Fully built with head so you could just swap all the ancillaries over rather than rebuild your worn out one. dunk Bottom end (Block, pistons, rods etc...) as stated about 2k Head I believe Arnout will do a fully built head swap for £1600. Ancillaries pass....but a PAS pump is about £300...then there's oil pump, water pump, AC pump etc etc.
Dnk
Thanks Alex I was actually thinking more along the lines of Toyota doing a brand new unit that you just swap all your bits too as long as there in good working order that is. I'll give Mr T a call and see if they do anything along those lines. dunk
Dnk
Just been on the phone to Toyota and Brand new UK parts Short Engine Block, Sump, Pistons, Rods, Crank all built = £1851.15 + vat Partial Assembly The above but with cylinder head fitted and ready to bolt in = £6,036.36 + vat dunk
Alex
ouch! Did they say that was with Ancillaries then?
Alex
Might be worth investigating a fully built longblock too...from Mig or someone like that.
Dnk
No those dont include ancillaries. dunk
Ark
Just been on the phone to Toyota and Brand new UK parts Short Engine Block, Sump, Pistons, Rods, Crank all built = £1851.15 + vat Partial Assembly The above but with cylinder head fitted and ready to bolt in = £6,036.36 + vat dunk Those are crazy figures! Surely you'll need to add manifolds, turbos, and possibly ignition to all all of that! PS: SBK you finally got bored of the old smartgroups then? Simon K
Yeap, 30K a year. I brought my mkiv as a company car to drive up and down to Wallington. Faultless. Ark - I still try and go onto smartgroups but as I retrieve mail fro mthe web, there are always problems. Always been on here, but only recently paid my £10. I love all sites that involve supras and cars - Petrol mad :-) SBK
Dnk
Youd use most of the bolt on parts that are already on your old engine so you would have manifolds, throttlebody etc. You could go to town and do the turbo's if you were feeling really extravagent:D Also these aren't according to Murley Toyota in Stratford reconditioned units, there completely brand new. Need a price from someone to rebuild a complete engine to the same o/e spec as the Toyota engines to get a comparison. Not a clue what any of our specialists here would charge so worth more investigation i think. Also youve got to allow £?'s to do the removal and installation. dunk
mr keef
Im sure Terry was gona stock rebuilt engines,or was looking in to it a while ago.
ardasaliah
Mine has 155,000 and it simply perfect. Just change the oil every 3000 miles- like mine has had all its life and it will go on and on
toyotasuprauk
I would buy one with 100K its not many miles for these cars espically seeing there age, although I'd rather go for NA with higher miles.
whitesupratt
I do think you have very little faith in the supra lump! you're really thinking worst case scenario! These things are bullet proof if maintainted properly, as said before 300k! so worry bout milage too much when buying! there are low milage ones around, but most are around if not over 100k and no one really thinks twice! Guest Terry S
Im sure Terry was gona stock rebuilt engines,or was looking in to it a while ago. We have done a few now, new short block, uprated rods, rod bolts. Works really well. Not stocking them as there simply isnt the demand but the turn around is pretty quick. Gazboy
How much is it to swap an N/a lump to a VVti twin turbo engine? (I'm dreaming). Also, how much does the tt engine weigh?
