hadyn
I thinking of being a ricer and buying a replacement fin for my HKS SSQV just to alter the bov noise Is the gold fin the one that actually makes it louder? I know the purple fin softens the noise. Im asking this as a trader has told me that the gold fin makes the noise louder, but a fellow user on the SXOC has informed me that a gold fin made no difference to the bov noise on his S14.... So if i want to make the bov louder is the gold fin the one to go with? And no, i dont want to adjust the screw on the bov as I dont want to mess up the setting
Clarkey
I was under the impression that it was the opposite. The gold one .. is for bling. Whereas the purple one supposely changes the sound to a lower frequency. I could be wrong - I had a purple fin but never fitted it.
hadyn
Try the purple one see if it makes the noise louder
Clarkey
I sold it for £12 a couple of days ago on here. Besides, my EWG drowns out the HKS BOV anyway.
Scoboblio
When I get round to fitting my newly aquired purple one I'll let you know if it makes a difference

hadyn
Mine came with a purple one too. I feel like I'm missing out:( So what IS the difference between the three colours then? Remember its not the purple thing on the inside of the bov, its the 3 prong fin thing that is at the open mouth of the bov that is held in with allen bolts. Mine has the purple centre thing, but the silver fins

TLicense
I had a std one, and changed it to the purple one. The purple one is lower pitched and sounds a bit like an old bailey dump valve. The gold one I found was quite high picthed, and reminded me of someone sneezing!

GavinL
What happens if you take the fins out completely? I have just the empty fitting from the recirc kit in my BOVs (assuming the BOV reassembles without the insert) no real sound at all...apart from a small amount of comp surge. Ian C
I have one on mine....came like it when I got it?? does yours make a fluttery sound Ian when backing off the throttle at low boost?? Yes it does. It's rather unique in the world of bovvery. One of my friends called it a deranged chipmunk. Nice. -Ian
uk-rich
just got tis from hks website SSQV Insert The HKS SSQV silver triple-fin discharge design produces a powerful and unique aggressive blow-off sound along with added visual distinction. Additional triple-fin inserts are available in gold (standard high frequency sound) for visual appeal and in purple metallic (emits a lower frequency sound than both the standard and gold SSBV inserts) for an alternate sound and appearance. SSQV inserts are easily interchangeable within minutes.
