42" HDTV, Which one

LCD is certainly the way to go at the moment...plasma still isn't either good or reliable enough to be worth spending such a huge amount on.

 

TVs don't last 10 or 12 years anymore like they used to....

 

Not so as I said in post above. There have been leaps and bounds in quality and reliability in the last 2 years over the early plasma screens. Quality of LCD on the smaller screens is better but lots of screens become suspect over 42" as said. The average lifetime of plasma now is around 40-60 thousand hours. The amount of viewing I do means it should last me around 10 years, which is way long enough to have any TV and you'd want to be upgrading by then anyway.....

 

And if anyone was gonna say - no they do not need "re-gassing" another of the big misconceptions!

 

Seriously folks this type of stuff is discussed extensively on Avforums. Its one of the best forums of its type, there is LOTS to read but its worth it. Quoshes a lot of "rumours".

I have the Panasonic Viera 32"LCD that is HDMI. Bit pricy at nearly 2 k but is HD ready and can also read photo cards with pics and video (need to get my head round how to do that though), also know as HDMI I think Nice looking too, slim black n silver.
