A little advice if you will....boost

search not being very helpful with my search strings!!! LOL!

I've been generally cruising up the motorway this week, but a couple of foot down occasions ;)

I've got a Jspec, full decat (think HKS decat pipes and HKS Super Drager) and TRL FCD now fitted. Car hits 1.2 max, not seen higher (on defi so kg/cm).

Trouble is when I floor the gas and kick down the car takes off, second turbo comes on line and you can feel the car hesitating, a quick look at the gauge today showed it hit 1.2 as no2 came on then back to 1.0 then back up again to 1.1/1.2.

I'm guessing the boost is rising too quick and the ECU is thinking its overboost when it isn't (as it holds 1.1/1.2 if I get there without foot through floor).

So is this likely to be plug related (eg needing some cooler ones and if so I guess the IK24 Denso seem to be flavour of the month!) or do I need to fit a boost controller so it will stay at 1.2 and not drop down and back up again?

Cheers all!

No boost controller at all - yet ;) Just the decat and TRL FCD.

Cars run on Optimax only.........

I guessing next month prob needs to be an expensive one with plugs and boost controller............. guess I better get searching to see which is best!

I posted this both here and the US board and apparently NO-ONE had ever heard of such a problem/cure !

But, what happened to me was.............

I was getting a stuttering in the power department when flooring it between 2.5k and 4k, at which point it all went smooth again.

Happened just about every time.

Well, it was the stock traction control, and turning it off did NOT stop it.

I took the TRAC fuse out and was all sweet.

And I have RLTC now anyways............

Probably not, but gotta be worth a try.

Gordon,

I hadn't thought of that. I have to say I had a similar prob in my scoob, would hit 1.25, then down to 1.15 and then back up to 1.25 which the scoob lads said was overboosting and I got it cured fairly easily. This seems the same thing, as I boot it the boost goes up, back down, then back up again!

I've managed to get the TRAC to kick in when travelling in almost a straight line so I might have to give that a try! Trouble is I've read that pulling the fuse makes the gearchange more jerky for the autos, I think?!!!

I've also had 2 occasions where I've gone to put my foot down and its been almost no boost - say about 0.2-0.4, come off throttle and back on and its fine?!?!

Cheers

Neil
