Interesting Problem - Clutch/Flywheel ??

I've got an early J-Spec NA and when it came over form Japan it had a racing clutch in it which needed replacing because there was some juddering that happens as I begin to lift the clutch and as it begins to bite - as it moves off.

There is no juddering when to clutch is fully engaged - it also happens in reverse which is even worse!

So I had the clutch replaced with a standard one, but the juddering is still there.

On cold mornings there is no problem but as soon as the car begins to warm up it gets worse and worse! With normal revs pulling away it is bad but if I increase the revs it sort of makes it a bit better!?!?

I have taken it to a garage and he thinks that it may be the flywheel?

I also thought that it could be my gearbox mount - but it seems to be fine.

If anybody has had or got a similar problem any help would be really appreciated!!

Thanks Pete

The flywheel may be scored, warped or have a poor friction surface due to overheating, ideally renew it, a poor second best is to have it skimmed, and then re balanced. Thios may cost as much as or more than a new flywheel...

Also renew the spigot bearing in the back of the crank. Most clutch replacements are bodged these days!
