5-in-1 integrated card reader not working properly

Hi

I have a Packard Bell PC with an integral 5-in-1 card reader.For some reason the drives are not detected by Windows sometimes and I'm then not able to download photos onto my PC.Does anyone have a clue what may cause this intermittent problem?
