DShox
Help!!! I have tried changing my rear shocks today and got really stuck - now its dark I have to leave it jacked up over night I have Tein Circuit Master Type RAs and am trying to bung on some bilsteins. I jacked the car up, undid the 3 securing bolts accessed from the boot, then undid the bottom bolt secured to the wishbone, and then compressed the springs. The assembly still didnt come out so I disconnected the drop link to lower the wishbone a little more. There still isnt enough room! Any ideas where I'm going wrong here cos Im well done for at the mo? Thanks, D

Pete
First thing to do is give up, have a few beers and enjoy new years eve. It'll all be much better in day light

carl0s
I had the same trouble. Ian's idea of using the spring compressors whilst the strut is in situ is a good one but I didn't think of that. Instead I just applied great force to the lower arms and forced them down. Also try removing top first rather than bottom first or vice versa - this made quite a difference to the fronts from what I remember,
Chris Wilson
Undo both dampers at either the top or bottom, undo one anti roll bar link, at one end, lever the suspension on the side you want to remove downwards with a long, strong steel bar. Be careful where and what you lever... Remove spring / damper assembly. There is absolutely no need to try and compress the spring in situ. Need4Speed
lever the suspension on the side you want to remove downwards with a long, strong steel barOr just get an extra foot to stand on it. Swing the top mount away first then lift off the bottom one. An obvious trick is to hav both sides of the car raised at the same time as it unloads the ARB. It's only a 30 minute (each side) job and you don't need to compress the springs.

Jake
cheers. but did you guys take the calipers off too?No, you don't need to. That's the mistake I made when I did it first time.
DShox
hurrah! cheers. on to the beers chaps!
Need4Speed
Nope! Leave then on. It really is three top nuts and a bottom bolt. The most time consuming bit is jacking the car up and putting it in stands.
JohnK
There is absolutely no need to try and compress the spring in situ. I had to on mine due to not being able to undo the drop links on the anti roll bar and having no replacments to hand if I butchered them to get them off. Wasing a problem for me doing this though. DShox
job done! it took 4 hours trying to get the Tein one off the rear offside but with brute force (helped by long steel rod to force the wheel assembly down) it was possible even without removing calipers (although working room would be enhanced if removed - couldnt turn the bolts anyway - but be careful if using WD40 near your brakes tho). took 1.5 hours getting the bilstein on. i had to use spring compressors getting the jap spec bilsteins on but didnt really need em to remove the Teins. once the rear offside was done, it took only 1 hour to do the other side (remove and replace). the ride now feels great - bump free supra now. next weekend i'll do the fronts and make the car feel so smooth! Need4Speed
Did you raise both sides of the car at once?
DShox
er i had it jacked up from the back axle (in the middle) and supported by a jack one one side for added safety. so yep both sides were up and took off one drop link so the anti roll bar would allow the wishbone to be levered down to increase the length so the strut could be removed.
