matt johnson Posted December 29, 2005 Share Posted December 29, 2005 heaters are getting warm but no way near as hot as they should be... i can hear the mixing flaps moving when you alter the temp from cold to 25(half way) but can't hear anything moving from 25 to full heat..should i? Terminator Posted December 29, 2005 Share Posted December 29, 2005 Have either of you done a heater error code check to see if there is a system fault? Any good quality antifreeze should do, but Toyota recommend Red Forlife, it is premixed with distilled water. There are a few good flushes on the market. You could also try reverse flushing with a hose on the matrix. If the system has not been regularly maintained with good antifreeeze, beware rotten matrix. They are an absolute bastard to change. Have you checked the expansion bottle lately, if your rad cap has failed, you will dump fluid on the move leaving no signs of fluid loss but the system will refill from the expansion tank. Checking the expansion bottle, when hot can give the impression that everything is AOK. An air lock in the matrix will cause poor heating. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If the temp in the car is well below 25, the flap will be fully open by the time you've turned the dial that far. With climate control the heaters work on a feedback system, not just hot/cold like a conventional heater.The small vent above the fag lighter sucks air from the cab and measures the temp. If its a long way below the set temp (which it will be in this weather) it opens the flap fully (and sets the fan to full) to pump maximum heat into the cab. As the cab warms up the flap slowly closes (and the fan slows down) to maintain the temp at what you've set it at. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just want to make sure the heater control is functioning properly. Is there a preferred/best way to bleed the coolant system to make sure i haven't got an air lock? jackso11 Posted January 3, 2006 Share Posted January 3, 2006 You do a check by shorting out the ECU under the bonnet and counting the flashes on the dash. Use a bend paper clip. Shovels Posted January 25, 2006 Share Posted January 25, 2006 OK, I've just been out in the car and if I set the climate control to auto and tunr the heat much above minimum the fan stops blowing. If I turn it right down it suddenly tries to force loads of cold air into the car. ^^^ Where should I be searching mate?
