Paul Whiffin
I knew that! Be careful using the std knock sensors though Wez, they dont mean much and you cant set it up using them, on my car they were picking up knock that wasn't there thus retarding ignition/adding fuel which wasn't needed. Adam W
I thought the AEM was configured to work with the standard knock sensors Paul? That's what all the yanks seem to be using anyway ! Is there a better way you've found?
Paul Whiffin
Well mine was picking up noise above 4000rpm which wasn't knock, apparently the std knock sensors pick up transmission noises higher up the rev range, you can tune the knock sensors to be less sensitive which can help a bit. Best way is to get yourself a proper knock monitoring device though.
Wez
Hey Paul, Funny you should say 4000 though, is there anyway of telling what has caused the engine check light to come on. Regards Wez
Paul Whiffin
I wish I did, mine has been on ever since fitting the ECU along with the cat heat sensor warning light

Paul Whiffin
AEM or Gems didn't know whats causing it, is your cat sensor warning light on as well?
Wez
If its the symbol on the left that looks like a back box with some lines coming off it then yeah. Do the US/UK cars have this sensor, if so are they wired to the same place?
Paul Whiffin
I was thinking it must be a difference between US and Jap spec, may be the wiring to the ECU is slightly different, see what you can find out, I got fed up with asking in the end! Wez
Hey Paul, Done some more investigation on this and the JDM is wired the same for the malfunction light. It would appear that it is not this output (LS10) that is turning the light on. If I deactivate Coil4 (fuel pump) it goes out along with the other symbol that is on, if I enable it again it comes back on. Could this be something to do with the fuel pump ECU and the fact that I am now running 12v constant and not 6 / 12v? Regards Wez
Paul Whiffin
I tried turning LS10 off as well and it did nothing. Does switching coil 4(fuel pump) off mess anything up? If not then may as well leave it off?
