UltraFlynn
How have you gone about upping the boost without a boost controller?
supRo
You'll piss on a Skyline GTR!! (standard) Mate- what was the problem you had again and how did you fix it? Cheers, Ro
supRo
How have you gone about upping the boost without a boost controller? De-catting a jap spec can cause the boost to go upto 1.5 bar! so most people use a restrictor ring to bring it down.
UltraFlynn
I'm down to one cat and have a bleed valve .... so if I removed the other cat would that make the bleed valve redundant?
chilli
well done you won't regret it, I'm still loving mine! you around the 1.2bar mark?
chilli
I'm down to one cat and have a bleed valve .... so if I removed the other cat would that make the bleed valve redundant? yep you wont need it with no cats, you need the oposite i.e. restrictor ring
supRo
Flynn - you may want to restrict the car to say 1 bar and use the bleed valve to up the boost when required. Some members do that. I use an electric boost controller - normally switched off (1.0 bar) - car is 'safer/easier' to drive - turbos don't spool up as quick. When I fancy a play, then at a press of a button I get 1.2 bar! Makes it more fun as with no matter what power you have, you get used to it - this way I get more enjoyment!
Clarkey
as with no matter what power you have, you get used to it Indeed. My boost is 1.1 Bar .. bored now. Want to go to 1.4 Bar.
chilli
I was going to do that, but figured I'd have it set on max anyway so for the price of a decent ebc it's a bit of a waste that I could spend on something I really would use, like rltc or something. I'm learning to excercise restraint with the right foot lol, that's my control...
ADD
sorry for the delayed response i fell asleep (on the computer) i had 2 iffy turbos (supRO, thats what you said it might be) so i have had them changed and now she flys (thanks a million paul)
ADD
well done you won't regret it, I'm still loving mine! you around the 1.2bar mark? i'm hitting 1.2 this morning, normally just off it, when i blat the car and it changes down (auto) i get a loud popping noise from the exhaust, any ideas? Sub_Culture
Im sure there are experts that know better, but from my experience of turbo'd cars and uppping boost pressure, decat pipes etc, it normally means your spark plugs are shagged. Upgrade for some high performance ones and you should notice a good improvement. Andy
chilli
well from add's sig he is using IK24's, they are pretty good arn't they (think that's what's in mine) and they work ok I get popping on over-run, think it's the lack of backpressure. You get popping on full boost? doesn't sound right, is the power delivery smooth?

I had wondered why some people get rid of both cats and some keep them. Looking forward to getting my FCD refitted and then I'll be back up to BPU again. piehound
so on a uk spec you just decat to get the bpu, no ring no bleed valve nothing?
Scoboblio
On a UK you also need some form of boost controller to up the boost to 1.2bar.... as I believe the wastegate can handle the pressure unlike the J-spec, which will boost until destruction!
