Optimax shortage?

Parksy

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone else is having problems getting hold of Optimax at the moment?

Tried about 5 garages up north here (Redghugh bridge, Blyth, whitemare pool, gosforth) and all got none in, and whn asking the staff they don't know when they are getting a delivery :(

Guessing it is possibly linked to the explosion down south in some way or other?

Is this just a northern thing or anyewhere else having suppl,y problems?

Ended up having to put BP ultimate n, that being the next best equivalent I could think of...

Just read on the Evo forums it is something to do with the depot explosion. Something about losing several tankers??!! and then concentrating on keeping disel and normal unleaded stocked up and not Optimax :(

Reports of no more deliverys until into the new year now...

Reply from Shell... :(

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Optimax supplies.

Following the recent incident at the Hemel Hempstead Oil Terminal, Shell is in the process of reorganising the current distribution of fuels for sites in the South of England.

To ensure the mainline grades of unleaded and diesel are kept in stock, the resource used for Optimax deliveries has been unitised to support these deliveries. Our distribution contractors are working to get extra resource to aid with mainline deliveries and allow Optimax to be dispatched to sites again. We anticipate that this will take several weeks to get all deliveries back to normal.

Shell appreciates your reliance on Optimax, and would like to thank you for your patience during this difficult period. Please be assured that we are doing everything to get all fuels to service stations.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Wagster

'Before the fire, which devastated over a quarter of the site, the terminal was a major hub on the UK oil pipeline network (UKOP) with pipelines to Humberside, Merseyside and Heathrow and Gatwick airports radiating from it. The terminal operator is Total, who own 60% of the depot, with Texaco owning the remaining 40%, though BP and Shell also make use of its facilities. As the fifth largest oil depot in the UK, it had a capacity of approximately 60 million gallons (273 million litres) of fuel, although it was not always at capacity. It previously filled 400 tanker lorries every day and handled around 2.37 million tonnes of oil products every year.

The site consists of a northern and a southern portion, with the southern being used by BP and Shell and the northern portion being divided into 3 sectors; 'HOSL West', the BPA area, and 'HOSL East'. Texaco and Total use HOSL West and HOSL East, while the BPA area is occupied by facilities of the British Pipeline Agency (BPA). HOSL West was the main site in the northern portion of HOSL, and was used for storage of a variety of fuels excluding aviation fuel and kerosene, which are stored at HOSL East. The fire destroyed most of HOSL West and the BPA area.'

I was right, Total and Texaco own the site but it seems that Shell 'makes use of it's facilities'.

Shame there is a shortage of Optimax as I use this too but considering the events a couple of weeks back have caused untold misery in Hemel in wiped out jobs and homes and the fact that 1000's could have been killed then it puts it into a little more perspective I think?

Yes, it does. It's also a shame that we were told there was "absolutely no petrol shortage because of this incident".

Very true mate, seems the oil industry bullshit about everything! I guarantee that they get away without blame with regards to the explosion too:swear:

Not only am I experiencing an Optmax shortage in London, I am having trouble finding any sort of petrol - period. Went to a Texaco and a Shell and they only have diesel, not even regular unleaded. I'm running on fumes, so I came home and won't move the car until next weekend in the hope that a station near me might have something by then.

Noticed my local Tesco'a didn't have any today when we popped in for some milk. I thought it was because of chritmas :D

Yup matey, i get my optimax from the shell garage in Blyth and they have not had it for a few days....... Been using BP ultimate too but the car feels more sluggish!!

That re opens the old debate which fuel is really best if any, interesting reading though in this months evo magazine they have carried out a dedicated fuel test comparing different brands on a rolling road using a golf gti and the new b*w m5 different fuels had a big effect on the gti but virtually negligible on the m5 with bp ultimate having the biggest hp gains on the gti.
