Where is the pin located and is it only accessible from behind after removing the mounting bolt(s) (is it one ot two bolts each caliper)? all info appreciated The pins have a head on the outside end, so can only be knocked out from behind, however this can be (and should be) done with the caliper in place. It's the first thing to do after removing the wheel. You'll need a hammer and some kind of punch. After punching it a bit, a 'brake pin removal tool' as sold in halfords (LASER range) would help as you'd be able to push that in and start knocking it. WD40 might help too. carl0s Posted December 23, 2005 Share Posted December 23, 2005 I had a philips screwdriver which after removing the red insulating plastic was a perfect fit for those holes i.e. great for knocking the pins all the way out, but I lost it Saw the removal pin/punch/whatevers today at Halfords but didn't buy one.. only £6.99 or so. Chris Wilson Posted December 27, 2005 Share Posted December 27, 2005 This is why I cannot give a fixed price to replace UK caliper pads. Sometimes only drilling out will remove the pad retainer pins. I keep new pins and pin clips in stock, but mainly for my own usage. They can be a total PITA. jap spec calipers have few foibles with regard to pad changing in comparison. Gordon F Posted December 27, 2005 Share Posted December 27, 2005 Rears to begin with as I suspect I'll have to kill one of mine to remove it but fronts would be handy to have too If anyone has the numbers for the full brake refurb kits too that would be very useful For UK brakes only: 90240-06019 - Pin @ 89p each (in 01/03) presume rear 90240-06017 - Pin @ 90p each presume front as more expensive 04479-14140 - Repair kit front (seals, boots, bleed nipples - not pistons) £27.69 04479-14130 - Repair kit rear @ £22.31 As far as I can remember, pistons are the same front and rear and were about 16 quid each when I was doing mine I also ran a reamer (6mm I think) through the calipers before refitting the pins.
