Hesitation at WOT on stock setup. UK TT

Wipeout

Recommended Posts

HELLO everybody!! Help required please. Recently when flooring it I have noticed some holding back or stuttering between the turbo change over as if the accelerator is being pumped up and down. It is a stock setup (NO MODS) and the plugs are only 20k miles old. Could it be that the weather is getting hot and causing problems or are the plugs likely to be playing up????? Also can I go one grade colder on plugs even though the setup is standard or will this be problematic. What would you recommend?? Thanks.

In this weather it may be slower to do the transition.

If you get hesitation at high rpm - plugs, fueling or fuel cut would be the most likely candidates.

However if you wish to change your plugs then you can use Denso Iridium IK22 or IK24's on your setup - the IK24's are colder than stock and last over 20k miles. They are £65 delivered to your door, from me :)

i had a very similar problem this evening, felt like a blip in the 2nd turbo coming on line. i thought it's probably plugs and was planning to change them anyway. i have exhaust, 2nd cat gone, dsbc, etc, 1.1bar boost. What plugs are recommeded, anyone have a suitable NGK number?

sorry to mention something not related to the thread but Alex, you have a pm from me.

Just picked up my Supra TT yesterday, and when playing with the car on the M25 I noticed the exact same thing. This has me worried to hell!

A few times, just above 4k RPM, when the second turbo was kicking it would "lag" or stutter a bit. Whats this fuel cut everyone is talking about? Why is it doing this, and what is to be done about it?

Ive got an Apexi induction and HKS exhaust, but have no boost guage to monitor my turbos. Advice would be appreciated! :)

Hello again lads, Thanks for the help. It is mainly noticable when booting it in 3rd @4krpm between the two turbos if that makes sence. It stutters back and forth all the way up and then is still there when i have changed up. I also just caught the ! warning light flicker For asplit second but no other light with it and there is no ECU code stored. It seams to be ok when driving sensibly just when it is floored it coughs. Cheers again.

I'm going to recycle this thread (environmently friendly!) as it sort of describes what happens to mine, but thought I'd just check before I start buying new plugs.

Little history, it was a stock Jap TT. Fitted a boost guage that showed it peak at 1.2 bar boost with no fuel cut. (I know this shouldn't be possible, I'm going to be looking at the ECU sometime soon to see if a FCD was fitted in Japan). Fitted induction kit, everything fine. Fitted an exhuast, 2nd de-cat pipe and HKS SQV and now I get the stuttering only in third gear with WOT or nearly WOT and the boost reaches 1 bar or more. Originally I thought it was the HKS SQV leaking but I've tighten it and it still happens. No warning lights come on so I don't think it's fuel cut. Looking at this thread I'm left with either fueling problems or plugs. Hopefully it's the latter, what ya all recon?

Stock plugs will give up at just over 1 bar. I described mine as a 'soft cut', the boost wavered about 15-16psi.

I've got a set of IK22's spare with about 1500 miles on them if you'd like to try.

PM me your details if interested. I could either post or I live near J1 on the M3 and currently work near Slough, so possibly not too far from you.

It had a service recently, just after Billing, but I expect the plugs are stock and may well not be upto the 1.2 bar they have to deal with! :D

I saw you come in with a young blonde lady... well I didn't know it was you at the time. I was stood at the door with my young blonde lady. Not to worry mate, if I see you around I'll give you a flash . You fancy joining us on the Gumball?
