Rear Seat Latch Broke

My rear seat latch broke on me.  I was wanting to know if anyone knew how I can get my seat down.  Its in the up position and the black level knob on top of the seat is real loose.  The latch came off the hindge inside the seat.  It wont unlock the seat from the up postion and allow me to fold it down.  I have two Amp's mounted on the back seat and i cant get them off till I get the seat down.  I know there are two screws at the bottom of the seat, but I cant get to them because its in the up postion and so they are folded in to the floor area of the hatch.  If anyone knows a way to get my seat down without ripping a hole in it, i'd be most appreciative.

It appears the black pulley is screwed on what looks like a wood screw,  is the screw still intact ?  if So use so long nose pliers grip the screw and pull the seat should be released, looks like you can just get another top and screw it on or buy the orginal from toyota.

The knob is connected to a metal rod and that whole thing came out of the seat when I pulled up on it.  So its detached, but when i put it back in and work with it for 30 minutes, I can get it to hook back in at a certain angle, just when I pull up on it, the seat does not release.  I'm wondering if the cable in side is broke.  I just need to get it to fold down so I can work on it.

It looks like the only way to get at the interior mechanism of the seat is with the seat in the down opposition or with the seat back removed from the car.   As your seat is stuck in the up position IMHO you only have two options keep on hooking and hope you get lucky or remove the seat back.

If you remove the seat cushion you can access the bolts holding the seat back hinges, detach the carpet then undo the small bolts holding the lower part of the seat back in place, I believe this will give access to the locking mechanism.

Ok, well I finally got my seat down.  It wasnt easy.  The lever had come out from its latch and the cable on the left side had broke.  Only releasing one side of the seat and keeping it from folding (down or up).  Basically i had to take all my stereo stuff out of my hatch area, or boot for those who live in europe (like to refer to it).  I had amp's mounted to the back seat, which i moved into the little space between the seat and the tire well to take stress off the seat.

Anyhow, basically I had to take out the styrofoam from this area where I mounted my amps to get to the bolts at the bottom of the seat. This area is where most people put 6" or 8" subs to stay as close to stock as possible.  There were three screws at the bottom that i took out and pulled the carpeted back cover off the bench seat.  Inside i found the poblem with the seat as mentioned above.  This is a lot easier to do if the seat is folded down.  I did have to cut two slices in the styrofoam because there are two cables going down into the gas tank.  I ran the cable thru the slits in the styrofoam and just pulled the whole piece out.  The angle on the screws to the seat were a little tough to get at but i used a short phillips screw driver.  I also used these pages from the Supra manual to help guide me in doing this process.  http://www.mkiv.com/main/index.html  under specifications--repair manual--Rear Seat Replacement.

I thought i would just post my experience as a follow up on my original post, just in case there were others out there that have ran into the same problem.  Thanks to those who responded to my post, most appreciated.  Anyone has any questions about this process with the seat or any custome stereo problems they can email me.
