Tricky-Ricky
Hi guys, back again for some advice, as some of you may have noticed, i was asking questions earlier this year, but unfortunately the deal fell through! i am now considering a PX of my very moded Silvia S14 350BHP for a bog std auto TT, not used to autos, only driven one auto Supra briefly! i can remember asking before, but i need some reassurance:yes: do you think a hardened manual box man will be happy with the Supra auto box? Scoboblio
The only way to tell is to drive one mate. Personally I love my auto, but asking on here means that everyone will recommend the one they went for.
terribleturner
I always thought that there was no way i'd be driving an auto, but i did and i definatly am 110% happy with my choice.

Tricky-Ricky
Yes LOL short and to the point! unlike you mate:p i think the only thing that makes me uncertain is the lack of engine braking.
Scoboblio
You can drop the auto down yourself to engine brake. Unfortunately because it's only a 4 speed 'box you'd better mean it when you do it.
Jake
If you can't be arsed to go out and test drive both boxes just buy a manual. Mind you, if you're that lazy you'll probably like the auto
Tricky-Ricky
I have driven a couple of manuals, which i like, just had very little experience of the auto, not had a chance to drive this auto yet, is there anything to look out for on the Supra auto box? MrRalphMan
I have a manual, but used to have a MK3 auto and that was great to drive.. Was a little anal and waited a year for a Manual, but I'm sure I would enjoy driving an auto.
geoffvalenti
There'll be some days, normally for me about 1 in 10, that you'll really wish you had a manual, but for the other 9, you'll be glad you chose the auto The auto is a far more relaxing drive. It doesn't seem as fast as the manual, but put the 2 side by side and it may even be a bit quicker over the 1/4 mile. The size of the Supra, and its power delivery, really suits an auto gearbox, but you'll have to drive some yourself, to see if *you* can live with it. RedM
I enjoy driving my auto. However, just like Geoff above, there are times (maybe two or three times a month) that I wish I had a manual. For the rest of the time I don't miss it at all. The hardest thing is finding something to do with your left hand. Holding on tight to the wheel is the best idea I've come up with! JohnA
If you test-drive an auto, remember to go FULL throttle and then some (it's got a thick button underneath the gas pedal, the 'kickdown' switch) Also the torque-converter feeling takes some getting used to, at low revs you don't have the direct connection with the engine, it feels like a slipping clutch. Aerotop Dave
I'd never have a manual Supra, and that's from someone who'd had 5 manual cars before.
TLicense
All these people saying 1 in 10 days they wish they had bought a manual etc. I have 0 in 10 days that I wish I had an auto. lol
markssupra
I would tend to agree with other members that the auto is great but just occasionally I wished I had a manual. But the benefits of the auto outweigh the manual. Plus you do have "Manual mode" on the auto.

tbourner
I do wish I had an auto when in traffic at quarter to 5!! But I know I'd want my manual back if I got an auto!
JamesG
I never had (or wanted) an auto before I got the Supra, but I'm very happy with mine. It's worse than a manual in that you can't easily balance the car when going down the gears. Also the gear ratios are very long, which can be a nuisance in slower twisty bits when going between second and third. But other than that, it's very good. You can keep it in a gear with no risk of it changing up or down, and it's way nicer than a manual for most journeys.
Barney
The Supra auto box is superb, until you have driven one I wouldn't dismiss it. If you are torn between the two don't part with your money until you have compaired both, otherwise it could be a case of "buy with haste, repent at your leisure. GeordieSteve
I own a mkiv auto, a mkiii auto and I've driven a 200sx auto. The mkiv is in a completely different league. Don't confuse the mkiv auto with any other auto

Guest chiefvinso
I've been in an auto and its nice, but its boring. Manual gets you involved - why toyota bothered with an auto I dont know IMO there are no pros to an auto.
Guest Steve Burnett
I know the auto box is very very strong and can take alot more power but when/if it does go what sort of ££ are you looking at??
