Must I fit a Boost controller?

Would I be stupid to not fit a boost controller when fitting a front decat pipe? My second cat is already out and I do have a GReddy boost gauge installed. The current exhaust is a big bore thing but with 2 silencers, I don't know what make it is though, it came with the car when imported.

I was thinking of replacing the existing cat with a CW front pipe and seeing how it went with regards to over-boosting, maybe it won't.

Thoughts?

Anyone know how much a front decat pipe is from CW? I'd better not phone him at this time of day on a weekend!

Same here.

No cats at all, full Blitz pipe, stage 3 hybrids and my right foot controlls the boost! :sly:

I cant remember the last time I actually used full throttle???

Or should that read...

I cant remember the last time 'I needed to' use full throttle!

I run it at about 1 bar, although it will go alot higher if I put my foot right down. :)

My experience is that without a restrictor ring, you will probable be Ok in this weather (and anything over 10 degrees C). When it starts getting colder, especially freezing you will probably see at least a 0.2bar increase and a trip to CW may be in order to save your spinners popping !!!

Mate after front decat you boost to over 18 psi then all you need is a £10 restrictor plate from Chris Wilson.

I have no cats and a Blitz and went up to 21.5 psi. The plate took me down to a safer 17.5/18.0 psi.

Don't blow your money on a boost controller.

I've never actually checked what it's boosting to before. I took it out tonight and at 6000rpm in 3rd (auto jspec tt) with foot to the floor it's hitting 0.9 bar according to the GReddy boost guage. It's bloody hot outside too, must be the hottest day of the year, so I'm guessing that it prolly boosts a bit higher on cold days. I'll ring CW tomorrow and get the front decat pipe and restrictor ring ordered up.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Oh I didn't realise that. Makes sense to "suck it and see" in that case. Cheers Thorin dude!

got some steel plate from work to have a go at making a couple to try. i want to get boost down to about 1.6 bar think 1.9 bar is a bit higg for me as it dont feel any faster than when i always run at 1.6 bar for everyday use.

will have to look into running some sort of octane booster or maybe optimax but its so dear 79p , asda sell best stuff at 74p

How do you change from 1.6 to 1.9 and back without a boost controller then ?

you just have to watch it and keep an eye on boost gauge. i take it steady at 1.6 bar and use 1.9 bar when you need it finishing off a cossie or punto gt turbo

i will do some research and development between 2pm and 3pm tommorow.

as my grandad said when i was little, look grandson keep an eye on your boost gauge

he also said look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves. you really need to get some medical advice about what pressure is safe to run.

dont take any advice off someone you dont know. get to know the person through chatting on MSN version 6 it has some good features like web cam and microphone support. you also can have little pictures at the side of your name.

be carefull out there the world is full of bad people.
