SMIC air intake!

Has anyone removed or even thought about removing the indicator light assembly from the SMIC air intake.

Surely this will improve cooling as the intake area will substantially increase.

I've considered getting some sort of slim indicator to replace it or even integrating the indicator function into the headlight.

What do you think? :)

Don't say get a FMIC, I've got my nice new CW SMIC ready to go in and I don't want to replace the bumper. :D

I'd say "don't hold your breath". It might even barely be measurable.

The overall surface area that's important won't change by much. The indicator surface is rounded so the air hitting it still makes it through the SMIC core, it's not deflected or anything. This SMIC has excellent ducting, superior to any FMIC hack I've seen.

If you want to maximise airflow through the core, make sure that the inner wing vents are not blocked with mud from the tyre, those are far more important.

Exit is at least as important as entry.

When I swapped my SMIC I ran it without the indicator, just to see if there's any difference (I, too, thought that the indicator was hindering airflow)

I didn't see any charge temp difference, so I abandoned the idea. It was summer, as well.

I'm sure that it *should* make a difference, WTF, but I thought that the aggro of relocating the indicators wasn't worth the benefits.

You'd have to change the other one as well, or else the car would look lopsided.

I would say it's definitely worthwhile, as the duct shape is smooth, save for the indicator intrusion, its removal should reduce turbulence and greatly aid flow. Maybe you could put an indicator within the headlight assembly, I don't know the relevant construction and use stuff, or whatever acts cover this.

I'm sure it would be worthwhile, the indicator on the car now isn't particularly small in relation to the opening that it sits in.

Strange, it is a lot of hassle. I'll do some research into this I think.

I've read on here in the past that folks have removed the indictors and converted the side lights to be the indicators instead.

Just found some stuff on Supraforums.

Trouble is, on the facelift car the indicator housing incorporates the side light aswell.

I never use the side light only as they are rubbish, dipped beam all the time.

Not sure if I need to have a side light for the MOT etc.

I'm sure you would need them for MOT. Sidelights are supposed to be parking lights. You must use them when parked on a road with a speed limit of more that 30 at night in theory.
