DShox
Hi, anyone running standard setup Toyota KYBs (black strut) - how do they feel over UK roads? anyone know the mileage at which these mess up too? Thanks, D
ChrisB
Mines standard setup, feels fine on the uk roads nice and smooth even with 19" wheels on, and aparantly mine are on their way out at 65k miles, though i cant see any fluid leackage yet, but this is what Mr t told me
DShox
thanks - but you can get em refurbed i guess. if they feel fine then i guess they arent in need of attention tho?
ChrisB
ive checked them for leaks and they look fine i asume they were just wanting me to say put new ones on and charge me a million pound or whatever they cost from the main dealer. Alex
Didn't think KYB's were standard! Bilstein were the OEM suppliers.
ChrisB
No idea what flavour mine are but they are black and stock
DShox
think some had bilsteins (yellow) and some had KYBs (black). im looking at going UK road friendly by sticking some KYBs on! my teins are sweet but i need the cash so will sell em on methinks. the darn thudding in my car is down to worn/missing boot rubbers methinks! SimonR
Are the KYBs or Bilsteins height adjustable?
Alex
Sorry mine wasn't a question or anything... KYB AFAIK did not supply Toyota.
DShox
i dont think the Toyota KYB or Toyota Bilsteins were adjustable in standard spec. Alex - are you sure the KYBs are not standard jap spec - i thought there was an option between KYB or Bilsteins out there?
Alex
First I've heard of it if it was.
Nic
Sorry mine wasn't a question or anything... KYB AFAIK did not supply Toyota. Same here, never heard of KYB dampers being standard kit on the Supra. Simon, the Bisteins are not height adjustable, although lowering springs can be fitted if you want to lower the ride height slightly.
Mike M
Hi I've just fitted four new standard dampers on me 93 NA from Mr T, the fronts had KYB stickers but the rears just had Toyota motor corp stamped into them. Mike
Chris Wilson
Tokico and Bilsteins made under licence by Toyota 9and NOT the same as European made Bilsteins) were OE equipment. I have never seen KYB's as a stock fitment.
Guest ajm
my j-spec TT is fitted with new silver coloured KYB rears (self-adjustable) as supplied by Fensport. not too bad but the back end feels 'wavy'- maybe they still to be bedded in or there's some other problem which still needs investigation. Lucifer
I bought 4X kyb Gas adjust shocks with new stock springs..... all I can say is they were SH*T. Floaty and wallowy. They went straight away with less than 50 miles on them. And NO, KYB's were never stock equipment.
DShox
i read a review on the KYBs (gas n adjustable). they look v affordable so i looked into em. the reviews suggest that if the user lowers them too much they go pop right away but keeping them at recommended levels and they last a good while and perform nicely. think they are on the review centre . com or sommit. Alex
KYB AGX's are a nice replacement for the stock damper with 4 levels of adjustment.
markssupra
Changed both rear standard shocks ,cos 1 was leaking, with KYB Gas Adjust shocks and fitted new boots. Got them from Fensport but had to send 1 back as the thread stripped before i got any where near the torque setting. Seem to be fine and an improvement over the originals. DShox
i thought this too but they came off another soop like this so think it should be ok. will have to see tho!
DShox
ok i know - the fronts are like the pic above (have a hole at the bottom of the strut), whereas rears are open (like a fork but with the middle pointy bit missing).
