markrzs
Got a problem Just got my Supra back the otherday from my local Mr T's to get all the wheels realigned etc etc, I get in the Sup this morning and every time I drive over a drain/manhole cover or some kind of bump the back wheels seem to slide/jolt to the either side ?? Thought it may be greasy roads but i've been all over Sussex today and i've given the tyres a good clean with fairy liquid to get any grease off. The car drives in a nice straight line but as soon as I hit a bump it's all over the place ! Tyre pressure's have been adjusted to various pressure's, visually everything looks ok, and the BFGoodrich tryes are like new ( rears anyway ) I have booked it into the Garage once again for them to look, but help please !! Forgot to say the Supra is totally standard. Thanks Mark.

Duffers
Glad you've got it booked in again mate! All I can think of is get someone to drive behind you and see if they can see what the rear of the car is doing in respect of the slipping around. I know you KNOW that its slipping around already but they might be able to give you a bit more information visually if they can actually see what the car is doing and its geometry on the road. Just go easy till its looked at mate! Not much help but its all I can think of for now - one of the techies will be along soon to help you I'm sure... Cheers mate Paul

whitesupratt
ME ME ME! I had this exact same problem about a week ago, whenever going over a bump, the car felt like it was being rocked side to side! almost skipt abit! felt really unstable. it turned out a full geometery check was in order, id recently had trackin done(at front). It turns out, the passenger rear was pretty much as out of alignment as it could be! so had the rears tracked, along with front again! as the front and rear hve to be done against each other! Now drives better than it eve had! Also two of my wheels werent balanced properly, but that wasnt related!
RedM
So, basically you had four-wheel alignment done. Am I right? Having this done on Saturday with new tyres.
tbourner
Could it be a shock going on one side, that gives the impression of kicking out uncontrollably over bumps (it did on mine anyway). Check for goo leaking out the shocks.
whitesupratt
Yeh i had four wheel alignment basicaly

Chris Wilson
Rear toe is offset from C/L of chassis. Rear tyres are different, in pressure, make, model or wear. Car has knackered suspension, in that order of likelehood.
lpher
Ive had this kinda problem for a while...untill i, last month, had the car in at Mr. T for a full alignment
rolli
Could be a broken anti-rollbar mine was unstable until i found it was cracked by the mounting bracket. replaced it an all is well now also check all the bushes and shocks
Steve W
CHRIS ! This is the 'problem' i was trying to describe to you few weeks ago (.....i THINK !!) [it IS only if i go over holes/manholes etc] BUT, i have had mine 4-wheeled-aligned ?! [after the New wheels / new tyres were fitted] They didn't SEE anything broken etc under there (sure they would have tried to sell me MORE stuff if they had ?!) and the shocks LOOK OK (?!?) although seem quite 'stiff'. I have been putting it down to wet/greasy OR going to 18's (STIFFFF !) but.......................... Would be interested to hear outcome of yours Mark ????? FatS. tbourner
Jump up and down in the boot and see if the car bounces once and stops or if it carries on wabbling for ever!! That'll show if it's the shocks or not.
Terminator
Mine does this on a few local man sunken holes in corners, new shocks nothing broken and alligned. I put it down to momentary lack of grip as the whole of the rear is suddenly relying on one tyre for grip. It is all over in a fraction of a second. Guest Cuthbert
I vote knackered shocks. Had this on mine with exactly the same symptons
markrzs
Well it's the day of rekoning tomorrow at 10.00am ( wish me luck ) I'll mention everything that you guys have said it could be to the garage and report back. Cheers guys Mark.
RedM
Mine does this in only one place that I drive regularly. A gentle right hander down a steep hill. The back end always feels like it's going to step out so I always go slow. Don't really have any problems with its handling apart from there. markrzs
Well everyone just got back from Mr T's, the problem was the anti-roll bar loose ! Apparently the bolts had worked loose a wee bit and they were corroded too, a good clean and a tighten up and it all good . As it is Christmas they did'nt charge me either Onlything now is the steering wheel is not inline with the front wheels, i had this problem before and it was corrected with the 4-wheel alignment but driving back from the garage it seems to of come back again . Drove straight back but their really busy and can't fit me in until between christmas and new year ! Hopefully i'll get it all sorted one day ! Thanks for all your help guys
SkyJawa
Just to point out from earlier in the thread. Tracking and full alignment were mentioned, just in case people didn't know or were getting confused with the terms but getting the tracking done is NOT full alignment. Full alignment is what it says, generally costs around 100 quid depending on what they need to do and they look at toe, caster, camber etc. Tracking is usually about 15-25 quid and is just the toe....... Steve W
Mine does this on a few local man sunken holes in corners, new shocks nothing broken and alligned. I put it down to momentary lack of grip as the whole of the rear is suddenly relying on one tyre for grip. It is all over in a fraction of a second. I'll be happy if it's perfectly normal, but, NEVER had it with the old TT ? Yes, Phil, it IS just a fraction of a sec...almost like one wheel has momentarily "slipped-on-a-banana-skin" ?!?!? or, like, the tyre compound is PLASTIC instead of rubber....but they grip SO well on bends etc ??? [Yep, understand the tracking-v-alignment... it was FULLY computer aligned, FOUR wheels . . .YEP...~£70 - cos done WITH new wheels/tyres] FatS. MEZZY KWIZMUZ !
