Sharpie
Need a little advice as I have only ever had a PC from work. 1, Will 16x DVD+/-RW# suffice or should I go for a Duel layer DVD burner ? Is it worth the extra ? 2, Duel Core Processor - worth it ? with or without HT (Seems that non HT is quicker in some tests). Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 840 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ This PC will not be used for games! Will be used for small bussiness setup & Home use, web access and maybe some basic video editing ?? Am I over spec'ing it ? Ta

SkyJawa
P4 IMHO if its not a gaming rig - they crunch the numbers for video editing a bit faster Dual Layer - you might as well, price difference is minimal!
Jake
Dual layer isn't worth a penny extra though if you aren't going to use it. How often will you need to get more than 4.7gb on a disk? And have you seen the price of blank dual layer DVDs?

Pete
I thought all the DVDRW drives were dual layer now? All the ones I ship certainly are. Get one, you'll only kick yourself in a years time. I'll quote you happy when I get to work if you like...and yes, you are over speccing it for work related activities. IMHO In saying that, Dual Core is V.cool and a major plus. Just £££'s
Pixelfill
According to the Intel manuals, the P4 EE is dual core with Hyper threading. i.e. 4 logical units, a very nice processor though tbh I'm not sure whether you'll see the benefit in a small office setup. Unless you are doing some heavy multi tasking, or intensive tasks (3d rendering, HDTV editing etc.) I'd stick to a P4D at most. just MHO The EE is just not worth the extra money otherwise. The Pentium D are exactly the same chips, just without the Hyperthreading. so you won't lose out on anything there. Mike

I've got a dual layered writer... and have never managed to successfully create a disc that actually works... and the discs are £3 each or something... DVD Shrink anyone? Alex
I think the best bangs per buck chip atm is the AMD 64 3700+ with 1mb of Cache. I didn't think anything properly supported Dual Cores enough yet to make them viable? Or is that just the AMD dual core that's not designed well enough?
