Dash Rendar
Was reversing into a space in a pooly lit car park this evening. Their was a car in the space behind me. I thought there was a lot of room behind me when the car when klonk. Grrr. Got out and checked the vehicle behind me. It had a tow bar nearly a foot long poking out the back. Fortunately, I managed to reverse into it exhaust-first and (since I was going slowly) didn't do any damage. Phew. Guess I'm having better luck than James! Tow bars should be banned. And drivers with tow bar-bearing vehicles should be shot on the spot.
terribleturner
if that was me you know it would have probably got my car stuck on the tow bar I'm seriously thinking about mounting small cameras at the front and rear of the car so i can check when i'm reversing and can see the height at the front before grounding the bumper

RobSheffield
would a rear screen badge for people with Towbar, that could be seen through the rear window of a car in your position Dash, be a good idea?
Pete
I reversed into some hidden rocks in France (just out of sight low down). Scratched the rear spat.

colsoop
My neighbour who reversed in to me had a tow bar, needless to say all the force being pushed through the one point of the tow bar made a nice impact on my rear quarter panel
cashpoint
you just need to learn to park
terribleturner
you just need to learn to park Alright to say that when you drive a cinquecento
Need4Speed
I once backed my new tow-car into my new race-car trailer's tow hitch... but I know what you mean about towbars. Almost as bad is walking into an uncovered tow-ball that's been well greased.
JohnA
So you reversed onto another car and now you're complaining? Strange world....
Dash Rendar
Erm, yeah. Exactly! I like to complain. In my defence, I've never touched another car before. I think it can be tricky navigating tight spaces in car parks, especially when you can't see actually see the tow bars. You can't see them because they are obscured from view at first by the adjacent car you are reversing beside, and then later because they are lower than your rear screen's field of view. So the only way you could see one is to get out of the car and look first. You try and park nice and tight (but not too tight), and then you hear the klonk. That's why I hate them! It's a bit like those silly pillars that you sometimes get in car parks behind the spaces. If you don't know that they're there (because of other cars obscuring your view) and if they are too short to be visible in your rear view mirror, then the first thing you know about their existence is when you hit one. (Fortunately, this hasn't happened to me yet, but a friend was complaining about them at work today.)
dangerous brain
I have a caravan a trailer and hence a tow bar. Bear in mind until his incarceration dude actually had the fastest supe on the board down the strip and that has a tow bar fitted so mock all ye if ye likes. I know what you mean about unneccesary poking out distance though. One across the road from me stuck out about a foot and I was always whacking my shin on it as I walked between my car and his after parking up on the street. Detachable tow ball ends are the way ahead and should be made compulsory.
Keith C
I have a tow bar. On the Supra.
Faye
Not quite technically true, you had a tow bar. After dear fat Sam suffered the indignity of towing something to JAE the tow bar was removed and not long after the wiring and stuff was pulled out so the poor girl never has to suffer the horror of having to tow something again. cashpoint
Alright to say that when you drive a cinquecento true i drive a cinq at present, or pub taxi as it become known. It's a whole different world, speed bumps no long exist, kerbs are no long the height of mountains and on comming traffic in tight road mean i drive on the pavement. As for tow bars ...... why do i won't to put car that far into a parking space
