Hmm, well I was only half watching it, but I thought I heard '633 Squadron' in there, rather than 'Battle of Britain' ?

Great episode, one of the best.

Call me crazy but anyone else think the Veyron looks a tiny but like the 350Z from some angles?

What a beast though, really wished they had showed more of it's crazy performance!

Those races are so contrived and staged it's untrue, but fun all the same - respect to James for flying the plane - shame about the night flying license lol.

I thought he said 12 minutes not miles.

Yeah that's right. I wonder how long a Supra would take to empty its tank at Vmax. The marketing stat I hate about the Veyron though is that one that Clarkson trotted out saying that if you give a McLaren F1 a head start and wait until it's doing 125 you will have caught up by 200. You will both be doing 200 at the same time, but up until that point the McLaren will still be pulling away. And after then you're only going to be catching slowly. So its not anywhere near as impressive as it sounds.

Looks like a SuperSized Supra to me....especially from the rear.

so let me see if I got this right.....it will accelerate far quicker to 200 than a mclaren upto 200mph......but then will be slower than the mclaren over 200mph.

Still has a top speed of 252mph compared to the F1s 241....so that alone is impressive enough.

And it can seat 2 :yu: where I won't even fit in the F1

The McLaren seats 3. I'd take a F1 over a Bugatti any day. The Veyron is faster, but not that much faster. The point with the 125mph head start thing is that the Bugatti would beat the F1 to 200mph, and beyond, but by that time the F1 would be miles ahead on the road and it would take ages to catch up.

surely it can't go that much faster than that deristricted can it? You get 1000+ bhp supra's and skylines, they don't sail past 250mph do they? There was that Jun supra that did 249 a while back IIRC and surely the Veyron isn't that much more aerodynamically advanced can it?

Apparently it'll do 257mph delimited. With it's Cd; every 1mph over 200 requires an extra 8bhp!!!!

Saying it's not impressive that it does 0-200 quicker than the (previous) fastest road car ever can do 120-200 is just stupid!!! That's a mighty leap forward. Still Saleen are bringing out a 1000bhp production S7 and SSC have the Aero SC/8T that is a supercharged 6.2 V8 at 1050bhp - so Clarkson was very wrong saying there'll never be any car like it (I'm sure they'll both be cheaper as well).

They should take it round the track, I just wish they'd get a good driver to do it, the Stig is just a pansy ex-touring car driving front wheel drive crap handling slow poofy ponce of a driver. At least get someone who's driven a RWD car before!!

Don't get me wrong, it is of course a mighty impressive achievement. The gearbox is apparently incredible. But the F1 was designed to be the ultimate car regardless of cost. That was the only design criteria. The Bugatti had to have 1000BHP, and had to go 250mph, and had to have a fancy double clutch sequential gearbox etc. It was designed as a marketing exercise to beat the F1s stats, not because that was the best way of doing things. I mean, what's the point of having to turn the engine off and activate a special mode that sacrificies all its handling to get top speed? Only to beat a record, not to produce a better car.

I just wish they'd started with a blank bit of paper and thought "right, lets build the best car possible with today's technology". Then it would be truly amazing.

I would expect an F1 to murder it round a track btw, it's far too heavy.
