Leaky aerotop

TrickTT

Recommended Posts

My roof's leaking at the front seal of the aerotop. I think where the rubber seal joins the top of the windscreen frame on the drivers side. The water is running down the inside of my A pillar trim and collecting in the bottom of my gauge pods. Can anyone recommend the best fix in order of easiness/cheapness.

1. without removing the rubber seal

2. remove and refurb the existing seal - how does it come off?

3. if it can't be done without a new rubber does anyone have the part no/epc diagram.

Do a search on Supraforums' date=' think there was a lengthy thread about this with some great UK input! :)[/quote']

lol, nicely put! According to that thread I'm not qualified to answer this question so I can't really comment. There are far more knowledgeable people in the US on this subject. Apparently.

(instead of searching superforums if you search on here with 'wild west' you should get a link straight to the thread we're talking about - give yourself a spare 20 mins or so to go through it!)

Vaseline.

I've put vaseline where the roof rubber meets the windscreen seal but that hasn't fixed it. I think its leaking where the rubber seal meets the metal windscreen frame. Had a quick look on supraforums and they say a new seal is about $50 so that'll be about £4599.99 from Toyota over here then:complain: . I think i'll have a go with a tube of black silicon over the weekend if it stays dry. Why is it these things never leak when its not raining all the bloody time:stickpoke

More than likely it's the join between the roof, the A-pillar and the window. Smear a bit of vaseline on that little spot before disrupting any other rubber bits. You'll get some goo on your window, but that's a small price to pay really.

Vaseline attacks rubber so using it long-term is a bad idea.

If you prise away the inner and outer trim at the top of the A-pillar you will find that the seal is held in place atthe corner with two studs. I recently found that these had been left loose after having some paintwork done.

Clean the seal around where you think it is leaking and apply a suitable rubber grease (I use the red stuff - icky but it does the trick) over the entire area on one surface only, then re-fit the roof and immediately take it out again. The print of the grease on the other half of the seal will show you where it is not making contact.

MInd you , when mine leaks it drips vertically down onto my seat rather than down the A-pillar. As someone said above, maybe the drain tube has come loose?
