SuperSupra
Attempting to remove my stock steering wheel to fit my new one, and the screw at the top that you need to remove has been wrecked! Looks like someone gave it a good go but failed previously! What can i do? I've tried all sizes of screwdriver but it won't budge cos it's knackered! SuperSupra
Drill it out? Thought about that mate but the problem is if i try that and it doesn't work, it really will mess the screw up good and proper! Has anyone else had the same problem by any chance? merckx
Not sure what sort of screw it is, but you could try using an impact screwdriver. Like Ceptik says, drill it out.

Excuse my blatant ignorance what's an impact screwdriver?
merckx
You shouldn't have any problems at all drilling it out, nice sharp drill though. You set an impact screwdriver to turn either CW or ACW then hit the end with a hammer, it will turn it and give you a better grip on the screw. Don't be worried about drilling it out, you basically don't have to drill very deep. You're just wanting to remove the head of the screw. A nice sharp 6mm drill. You'll have to replace the screw anyway.

By drilling it out I thought you just meant put a phillips headed drill bit and off i go! I'm confused!
SuperSupra
Another probably silly question - can you drive with that screw loosened, or not in there? The electric drill I've got is not working so thinking about going down to the local garage to get them to remove the screw but don't know if I'll be able to drive back!!! :help:
SuperSupra
Sorted, forget the problem, just gotta yank off the wheel now!

Glad you got it sorted!

SuperSupra
Dam right, I had to saw, sand and hammer stuff never mind lots of screwing but the wheel's on and works a treat!
ardasaliah
Might be worth a go. Get a very small socket set- the compact box types you can get. Find the socket that is just a little smaller then the screw head. bash this onto the screw so that it bites into the head of the srcew. then turn. I have remove a screw like this before . Should have read the above- anyway a tip for next
