paul for you info i said pakistani....and not paki... it was obvious from your thread yesterday that you do not understand the difference between the two and another club member had to explain it to you.:tumble:

Look mate, I'm not gonna get into a run in over this but you did say 'Paki' and have conveniently edited all the posts with 'cough', why? I've left all mine intact. BTW, it seems that Jake saw it too.

Edit: and a few others

no one answered my nigga question?!? there has to be someone who can answer this for me?

From a legal point of view I would think that anyone calling someone this regardless of their own origins would be in the wrong as it is seen as a put down due to origin/colour of skin of the person it's said to?

But from the PC/Leftie point of view it wouldn't be seen as serious because from what I see their rules take into account the type of person saying it, ie. coloured guy says it than that's fine, I say it........hanged at noon:yu:

rapdict.org has this take on 'nigga'

nigga

Descriptive term derived from the American derogatory slang 'nigger.' Originally used by caucasians to demean blacks. Today it has been adopted by black people as a term they can use to show their pride and take off the edge. "my nigga" = my friend. Do not use unless you are among friends, because it will get you hurt if heard by the wrong people. I don't want to be called yo nigga -- Public Enemy (Yo Nigga).

A nigga is someone that represents (who is down with it), and is not necessarily indicative of one's color (according to Ice Cube).

To quote Tupac, it's not about east or west, it's about niggas and bitches, power and money, riders and punks.

The word "nigger" is derived from the French word "nègre", meaning "black person", which in turn is derived from the Spanish word "negro", meaning "black". The term has become highly derogatory due to popular usage, often by whites. The term has since been adopted by blacks as the term "nigga" (note the deliberately distinct spelling).

You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a nigger. -- James Baldwin.

The spelling, pronounciation, meaning and usage of the word has been changed to convey a sense of pride and defiance, thereby removing the racial distinctness of the original term. Although similar in spelling and pronounciation to the original, its meaning is completely different. The word "nigga", when used between close friends, is as positive as the word "nigger" is negative. In general, whites should avoid use of the term, even in a positive sense, unless they are absolutely certain it will not be taken as derogatory.

(Acronym) N.I.G.G.A - "Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished"--quote Tupac Shakur

--------------------------

So in other words 'nigga' is OK but 'nigger' isn't and if you are white it's best not to use either.

Not a word I'd consider using myself anyway, there are enough generic insults to cover all the different folks in the world without getting too specific.

mjansari, we frown heavily on people going back to edit their posts to that level. With your previous history and temporary bans if I can actually prove you were racist then its all over and if I find you editing your posts to the same level again I will ban you.

You might think this is unfair but after the last 2 weeks my Winter Festival Spirit has gone out the window and Im looking to pick you off.

You may want to check some of the recent posts to see that once I have the proof I need then I act accordingly.

As far as I know, and I have had to investigate a few racist incidents in my time, it is all about perception.

If an action of one person towards another is considered and reported as racist, then it will have to be subject to a racist incident investigation. This can be a third party who was not directly involved in the alledged incident.

This is obviously open to considerable abuse. As I said it is about perception.

I'm confused. What's wrong with calling someone from Pakistan a paki? Surely it's short for Pakistani? Hell, my mate's a used to drink and smoke with at uni were all pakis. They even called each other and themselves pakis. WHy is it offensive? Isn't it just like saying Brits instead of British?

one question i have always wondered but scared to ask incase i offend anyone...but this thread seems good place!! :D

why can a black person call another a nigga and it be ok, but not a white person?!? surely the person is still the same making no difference who calls them it?

im sure someone will take this wrong!!

This puzzles me too a little – We do not allow racist’s but, we do allow RAP artists to use words that are considered racist.

OR if the way the word is used, in context to it’s specific audience then, it’s not racist ?

Think about how a word becomes classified as a racist word in the first place, it’s used in a derogatory manner, people don’t like it as it’s not just the word, it’s the tone in which it is said and the body language used when saying it. So, it becomes unacceptable in society.

Can a word be re-classified (or duel classificaiton) if it has a new meaning or used in another way ? Like in the RAP example above – Artists like 50 cents/DMX/Dr Dre/Busta Rhymes/Snoop/ICE T/Ice Cube etc… all use “My Nigga” “My Dawg” “My Homie” “Brother” in some of their lyrics.

Are they being racist ? Are they saying it in a derogatory manner to the other person ?

To me – NO as you can hear the tone and context in which it is said so, understand the meaning of the word = My Friend/Mate

Racist use of the same word:

You are watching a film about “Hood” life in Compton LA, and two black men have a fight in the street, one man is down on the floor and the other who is standing says “Get up Nigga” with lots of attitude and his facial expressions shows you that it’s not meant in a nice way – This IS racists.

*****************************************

However, is the NEW use of this word allowed/accepted by all, I’m not sure that it is so, does that in itself make it racists to be only allowed within a particular group of people ?

Good observation Peter, also with Termi's bit about 'perceived' it seems to me that it's wide open to abuse by chip on the shoulder wingers rather than the more genuine, shall we say, ethnic folk.

Exactly, and I have investigated cases were the evidence was false, just to get at someone. It is just too easy for anyone to claim someone else has committed a racist act. Then you get the whole "no smoke without fire" and "mud sticks" crap that goes with it.

Glad I did not waste 30 mins of my life BTW.
