No handbrake light.

I'm confused. Yesterday and today I had the handbrake and warning light come on and off. Brake fluid was at minimum mark so topped it right up. No more warning lights.

Which is a bit bloody annoying because now they don't come on with the handbrake up! :swear: Leaving a door open lights the main one though.

Not fiddled with any connections so doubting any have been knocked out of place etc.

Is there a handbrake sensor near the rear brakes or is it under the centre console. I ask because I was having work done in that area (rear wheel arch etc)

Any ideas?

Anyone? Anyone at all?

Is it possible that, with warning lights being on when the engine was switched off, the filling up with brake fluid and turning engine on again has confused something?

It just seems way too coincidental to happen immediately after filling up.

maybe bulb gone. you need to test that first. does it come on when you first turn the key to ign without going to starter (immob off, handbrake on)?

if not then the handbrake switch has gone (or never worked) or a broken wire somewhere in the circuit

Yes, Main warning on. No brake warning light (don't think there should be)

That's what I'm thinking although I find it hard to believe that it worked fine literally up to the moment we refilled with brake fluid. I pulled up at the garage, handbrake and light on. Filled up and then nothing. Almost too coincidental?

Did this get sorted? It seems i have the same problem, no handbrake light. The mil light doesnt light up and nither does the other brake warning light on the instrument panel.

I honestly can't remember. I think it did get sorted but cannot remember how or why it happened.

Sorry.

There is a handbrake warning light. On the pre-facelift dash, it's on the centre dial, on the middle right side, I think.

I would say the handbrake switch has either broke, or is stuck down.

Does the MIL light up when the ignition is turned onto '2'?

If it does and it's just not lighting when the handbrake is on it'll probably be the little switch on the handbrake leaver thats broken or come lose. It's easy enough to get to, just remove the gear surrond and unscrew the centre console (about 7 screws), remove it and you'll see the switch on the handbrake level

yeh its both lights though that dont come on. But the mil light does go on when the ignition is turned to 2 then out again when engine starts. The brake wanring light next to the fuel guage does not come on either. If i earth the handbrake connector should the light come on (i have checked all the bulbs).
