Simon
I believe that there are normally two silver boxes behind the stereo system lying on top of the transmission tunnel. I am led to believe that one of these is the active spoiler ecu (please give me one as I'm missing it) but does anyone know what the second silver box is for please. Thanks
Chris Wilson
ABS? There's also a plastic electric aerial control box i think.
Simon
Chris, the plastic boxes sit on top of the radio, and one of them is an antenna relay?. But there are two metal ECUs that sit behind the radio/cd unit on the transmission tunnel, one of them is the active spoiler ecu. I don't know what the other is as there are no lables on it. Thorin
Does the autobox have a separate ECU?
Matt Harwood
The autobox ECU is beside the engine ECU under the passenger kickwell. The metal ECU's behind the radio, on the transmission tunnel are ABS and active spoiler... And I've got a little black box next to them The ones on the radio, are air-con, (cream coloured box), and aerial relay, (smaller brown box). Have no air conditioning and suffering badly!
Thorin
Traction control next to the engine ECU too isn't it? What about Cruise control, I think that has a small ECU too. Think that one's behind the dash somewhere.
Matt Harwood
I stand to be corrected, but I don't think traction control has a seperate ecu, I believe it's done by the engines ecu... Electronic Throttle Control System? The cruise control ecu is up under the dash, just to the left of the steering.

I only mentioned it because while looking through the EPC I saw there was "Computer, Traction Control" (89631-9601)

UK spec car has a TRAC ecu, long gone in my case

There is another ecu next to the engines ecu on a manual car and I'm not sure what that is...
Guest Martin F
Trac ECU is next to the main engine ECU in the passengers footwell. AFAIK all the autobox functions are integrated into the main engine ECU on the MKIV.
Matt Harwood
I've just had a look at the ecu's in the kickwell of the manual. There are two. a large one which is the main engine ecu and a small one, (about 1/2 the size), with "Throttle Control - MT" written on it... I guess that's self explanatory. On the auto, the other ecu is almost the same size as the engines ecu. I'll have a look what it has written on that later... I know it has "AT" at least. Just another couple of ecu locations while we're at it... The SRS system is under the armrest of the centre console and there's a little fuel controller in the N/S rear quater.... Matt Harwood
Only if you've got airbags. I'm not sure Toyota use that exact terminology, I just used it 'cause I was too lazy to type "airbag ECU". I thought SRS stood for 'Safety Restraint System'
Guest Martin F
Supplemental Restraint System............thought i'd seen it somewhere. http://www.mkiv.com/specifications/product_Information_book_93/model_line-up/sep20_13.jpg
Simon
In other words ..... Airbag. I suppose SRS looks better embossed on the dash than Airbag. Probably gives the car another 10Hp.
