Supragal
OK, I'm with Orange and have been for years and years but they are so expensive. My contract has run out so I'm tempted by the 3 offer of a free Nokia N70 with 600 mins cross network anytime minutes and 800 texts a month for £40. Currently my bill is hitting around the £100 or £200 mark with Orange which I really can't afford!!! Soooo, firstly, N70- good?? Secondly, anyone with 3? Thirdly, anyone got one of these 6 month introductory offers with 3? What are they like after the 6 months? Oh, and, is porting my number across a PITA? 10 days sounds a PITA to me! mrdsukautos
Orange will match anyone elses tariff so all you have to do is find a tarrif you like and get orange to match it. This way you still get the service coverage of orange and the best deal on the market with no chance of any probs with the number port
Supragal
I thought that no 2G/GSM company could match 3G tariffs because they are so ridiculously cheap?
GeordieSteve
3G is apparently TERRIBLE for signal
DaveMassie
Im with orange and have to say its the best mobile company i've been with yet! My deal is 400 mins any time/network and 1000 txts per month for £50 per month. I never spend anything over that and before when I was with vodafine, O2 and even 3, my bills were hitting £200 a month. Dont even consider using 3, I had nothing but trouble from them, even to the point where I just left my 3 contract running for 6 months while getting another contract with orange. You may pay slightly more than you would with 3, but its for a reason and id gladly pay the bit extra for a phone that works, a mobile network that is good and customer service that doesnt involve call centres the other side of the planet. Have a look online for the better deals.
Supragal
hmm. that doesn't sound good. I rang orange earlier and they said they couldn't help me with my talk plan any further???? i already had the biggest text message bundle etc
DaveMassie
Best thing to do is start a new contract, that way you can get the latest deals etc Many of the mobile co's are doing some good ones at the moment. And personally I wouldnt use the 6 month deals, as you'l get used to your plan for the 1st six months then all of a sudden you'l be paying double and not getting the same deal as you were. Bobbeh
Thats a lot of texts, it might be worth you investinging in bundles that allow you more texts/calls etc for a a higher flat rate. Saves you money if you're a motormouth

Ark
Because I'm bloody-minded, I won't ever go with 3 -they keep phoning me up trying to sell me their service. There's no better way to make me never use someones service!! Porting a number's a piece of cake though - those 10 days aren't downtime, just arse-and-elbow time ie. it takes them that long to pull their finger out and get on with it. Max downtime should be 24 hours. In the meantime you carry 2 phones one with your old number, one with a temporary new number. Both fully functional. I guess you could then just forward your old phone to the new one. Then after "P-day" your old provide will send you a final bill and that's that. I did this about 2 months ago - easy peasy. Just be prepared for the begging phone calls from your old provider trying to pursuade you not to switch - they will _really_ pull down their pants when you present your PAC code to the nwe provider. Bobbeh
I got a call from 3 recently too, I couldnt understand the guy on the phone, he had a really bad welsh accent, so bad I thought he was indian to start off, and the phones they offered were shite too, more expensive international rate and higher long term line rental - no thanks. Ceptik
Rosie, im on O2 and have a decent tariff set up. Its anytime 250 but with 1000 text bolt-ons. This means i get 250 mins and 1200 textes free a month for £65. But i never go over that. This plan has actually worked for me as i used to reach bills of £200+. I know you've got your heart set on 3 though. Just my 2p worth
IDO
A few of my mates have moved recently to O2 ONLINE, not just the normal 02, as it is on line they say its alot cheaper as you get you bill over the net etc.. but the tariffs on the site look quite good.. just go to the o2 site and look for the "on-line" tariff's.. hope that may be of some help.. Supragal
OK, sorted- thanks chaps! I rang Orange and said I wanted the N70 with 300 mins and 1000 texts for £45 and I didn't want an 18 month contract so they did it on a 12 for me. The benefit of spanking £200+ a month on bills eh? So my new phone will arrive in 3 working days, I just have to register it, niiiiiice.

tDR
o2 online just now are doing many decent phones for free with £30 / month contract (18 month) which gets you 300mins / month anytime cross network + 750 texts a month. If you want it just to be a 12 month contract they do 200 mins and 500 texts. I'm with them just now and no probs: http://www.o2.co.uk
SuperSupra
Nobody should ever go with 3, they're the biggest bag of shite and waste of space I've ever come across. I work for another mobile phone company but believe me this isn't the reason i hate 3! I know 2 people who had contracts with 3, and after 2 months of hardly being able to use their phones and endless calls to 3 to TRY and sort it out, 3 basically said, "well you get what you pay for"!!! Some cheek! There's a reason they're so cheap guys. Besides, they use the O2 signal, but because O2 have priority over you, you quite often get calls ended without warning (generally at busy times - lunch time) Anyway off my soap box now!!!
