Steve W
Chris has already said £17 and Sign-Up for additional drivers ! NO, sounds like NO mate-racing ! ONE lane 1/4, ONE lane top speed so the two lanes are 'seperate' 'events' , with they're own queues ? ? Still sounds OK, but you're right, top speed runs AGAINST someone would have been awesome ! ! perhaps, later, once it's queitened down ? ? ? ? FatS. [ps. Staging-Lights don't bother me.....'cos Im shite at it anyhow ! ! ]

Scooter
No timimg lights or head to head, and for me and my NA no real point in doing the top speed run + the journey itself, means i'm gonna have to whimp out of this one and go somewhere slightly more local tomorrow. Kevin Huntley
Just got back from Elvington today and what a nice day it was! Absolutly boiling which was no good for Drag racing! It was great to see a good Supra turnout Steve w and his dad, Micheal Canny & Girlfriend, Thorin and eyefi and his g/f and also michel and his brother jj and Gaz tagged along in the Lexus:) My car was running much better today after curing my long standing problem and I managed a best 1/4 of 13.17 and a best top speed on my only run of 170.5mph which I was well pleased with despite wheelspinning a good 50m at the start:p Hope everyone got home safely! I felt really sorry for Steve W who melted his plugs and may have seriously damaged his engine, I hope your Sup gets well soon! You kind of feel really helpless at moments like that, but I guess the only real solution was to get it towed and drop it in to Leon or Chris Wilson to get it repaired! michael
As Kevin has said the weather was fantastic for turning people pink, not too healthy for racing cars though - saying that I eventually managed a 13.87 and a suprising top speed run of 168.6 - really pleased I've finally taken the plunge and had a go at this drag racing lark, even if my first runs gave pretty poor results (I was stocking up on exuses ) It was really nice to meet everyone, a friendly bunch as ever, Angela enjoyed herself too although her job as a photographer was cut short when stupid me forgot to put the memory in the camera - if anyone has photos can you let me have a copy of them? Sorry to hear the news Steve W - hope you get it all sorted with minimal wallet damage. Apparently the fastest 1/4m was 11.4s and the top speed was over 190mph - looks like TOTBII could be an interesting event. We left early (3pm) after a great day out, now it's time to nurse the sunburn
Thorin
SUNBURN! It seems the "must have" items to take to a drag strip are a crash helmet, sun cream, and a spare set of spark plugs. Felt gutted for Steve, I went over to see how he was getting on after they returned with new spark plugs hoping that all would be well again. Just didn't know what to say when they didn't make any difference. Unlucky Steve, hopefully it will be sorted out quickly without denting your wallet too much. Melted spark plugs aside, Steve's a top geezer and welcome back to Yorkshire any time, I still owe you a burger or something for doing me those CD's! Was good to meet the usual suspects there again, and actually got to see Lee's Skyline in the metal for the first time. Very nice, and seemed to go pretty well to say it was only running 0.5bar! Lee and Monkey appeared to be having some kind of competition to see who could kill the most cones on the handling course! Oh and some loony biker, after already doing the whole quarter mile on the back wheel with his legs in the air several times, decided to try and do the top speed run the same apparently. He came off at 100mph+ and was taken to hospital. Doesn't sound too serious though.
Thorin
Oh and well done mcanny, pretty impressive time for a stock car, but it's just never fast enough is it? Is the cheque book out already then? I have about 60 photo's on my camera which I'm downloading to my computer now, I'll stick em online when I get chance.
eyefi
them bikers where 'kin bonkers. ive never seen a more mental exhibition. they where doing 1/4 mile runs all on one wheel, proper fast runs, not just riding up the strip steady. then they started doing the top speed runs all on one wheel, then racing the skylines on one wheel, and then to top it all off that 'kin mental 9 second drag bike came out. that thing was stupid, ive never seen something move so quick, spontaneous acceleration, nutters the lot of em. some great cars and some great folk, brilliant atmosphere. jj's handling circuit finale was fantastic thorin, hows the glow coming on really bad to see steves car limp off, gutted for u mate, good luck getting it sorted. u got home yet? MONKEYmark
yes was good to meet new people. sorry to hear about steves car. you dont know what to do. hope its not too bad. and respect for coming so far to do racing which we all know he loves. pitty it was too warm got a red neck and face, was a right laugh on handling course i found out car can go round corners too. them corners were sharp. that guy in the mk1 escort killed his car too
Thorin
The glow is coming along nicely, lovely shade of pink. I just know it's gonna sting in the morning. I spoke briefly to that Tim with the T88 R34 too, mental car, T88's are huge! Don't think I could live with no boost until 6000 revs though! What top speeds had you been running previously? What was your speedo reading on that run? Towards the end the lad in the blue M3 Cabrio got a 174 mph top speed when he had previously only been running 150ish, I am begining to wonder if theres a rabbit off! He was completley surprised and thought it was incorrect! I am not saying its not possible, but it just seams on the high side to me:)
Scooter
Sounds like you all had a great time apart from Steve (gutted for you mate). Pod was a nightmare, just so busy and lots of bikes that get let round alot it seems. Did get the one run in my new NA and did 15.49secs (about 1.5 secs down on my standard TT times) + also enjoyed watching some of the proper drag bikes / cars run. looks like its a local track day or the long haul up north when i next get the urge. Thorin
I did hear quite a few people commenting on the top speeds. Some of them, like that M3, did seem a little too high. Didn't you get 160mph last time Kev? That was into quite a strong headwind so 170mph this time with a car that's running correctly again certainly seems believable. My speed was reading round about the 180mph figure so I am pretty sure the actual speed would be somewhere around 170ish! The last time when I did 160 I think the speedo was around about £!70ish as I crossed the line!

I am not saying its not possible, but it just seams on the high side to me:) I was a little confused by the time myself to be honest but I was one of the first few to do the top speed run (maybe the 4th person) and they weren't complaining of any technical issues - it did seem on the high side though as the speedo was only reading around 155mph and aren't they supposed to over read? Trac fuse was in and that was my first and last attempt so I have nothing to compare it with sadly, we'll just have to see what it does the next time. Even if it was 150 it was a very relaxed experience, one thing I wish they would add to the TOTBII is a braking competition, throwing the brakes on after the 1/4 mile runs really highlighted how good the Supra brakes are. Steve W
SORRY lads....... didn't feel like 'talking' last night....... took today off (owed a day !) and just bin bummin' around town tryin' to buy ANYTHING to cheer meself up..... ...........didn't work very well..........too hot......just reminded me of SUNDAY ! ! Anyhow, fitters at work came round last night to make sure they could 'handle' the job-in-hand before we transport it to work (or, possibly on one of them has his own large-enough garage !) They both said NO HARDER THAN A 6-pot 'BUMMER' ! ! ('spose so really when you think about it - only the turbos bolted on the side......) They're both in agreement that it could be 'anything' at the moment. It's chuffin' mostly petrol out (2-of-6 not firing !) and after it's idled a while/revved it starts a bit of oil smoke... plus, funny little 'wheezing noise from Inlet Manifold or Combustion Chambers ? Opinions are:- 1) Just head gasket blown BIG TIME across 4 & 5 2) 4 & 5 valves bent/held open (and guides?) 3) Piston rings, pistons........ OBVIOUSLY, 1 would be fine, 2 would be fairly OK, but 3 is not so cool. I'll keep everyone informed as it progress's.... FatS. [ ps. NOT the engines 'fault' AT ALL ! ! The I/C is fairly blocked, VERY HOT DAY, still only Jap' pump, and still 6v/12v thingy, decat/Nur, and I turned the boost up, and it was over the Top Speed Flyer (30/40 seconds of foot-to-floor!) The question is, did the plugs give up FIRST, or what went BEFORE ? PFR7's ie. 1 grade cooler/Platinums ]
Steve W
pps.... SORRY AGAIN lads (and lassies!)..... I'd 'ave been even MORE pissed off if it had happened at Pod ! ! You's lot of Northern Bu**ers are REALLY friendly ? ? Not at ALL like the TV makes you all out to be ! ! Not even THICK/DRIBBLING 'ecky thoompers like on Corry-Borey-Street ! ! I had peeps running around borrowing me tools, peeps LENDING peeps tools (if anyone knows the Rover bloke who lent Mark the sockets etc. please say thanks ! - he was off racing when I 'left' ), peeps chauffeur-ing me around buying Spark Plugs (STILL owe you a burger/pint/BOTH matie ! , the only thing you didn't do was offer to swap cars...... ?......... ....NO ?........... oh, forget it then...... Thorin
Here's hoping it's number 1 Steve! (but I'm thinking number 2 more likely ) At least now you know we don't all go around wearing flat caps, and racing whippets and pidgeons.
