I still wanna get an old Mustang or Challenger etc, love the RS Audis... Supe will do for now though. Will probably keep mine til it dies now!

Same thing here mate, I was looking for a Mustang before I bought the Supra. In fact I turned down a 68 fastback mustang and 73 cuda in favour of the one I got now. A bad choice financially as those cars are worth a small fortune now!

I'm also a big fan of bmw's. I've had them since I was 16 and until this year always owned at least one e30. The 325i sport was the best one I had but the interior and exterior styling (as well as the handling) is very outdated. My main driver before the supra was an e36 328i coupe, lovely car but was nothing special. It was just a good all-rounder, same as the e30's in their day.

Much as I love them, the e30 is not a patch on the Supra in any area. With the cost of a decent e30 m3 now, if you are after high performance or handling there are much better choices out there.

As has been said already, Supra and E30 M3 are totally different cars.

I love them (the E30 M3) and at one point intended to get one but went for the Audi urq instead, reason being was that my boss had an M3 and whilst it was a great car the Audi was fantastic and in my book a far better car.

I wouldn't even compare owning a Supra to my old classic cars and lets face it, thats what an early M3 is.

Who said i was an expert?! Talk about narrowminded-ness on here ;)

You asked for comment, so I gave it. You dismissed the MKIV after three test drives. May be I was luckier than you, I was given the keys of the first of six I test drove. I drove it like I stole it, went straight to the M25 to look for some competiton and made a year old Fezza look slow had an 45 minute of fun and went back griing for ear to ear, I knew I had to have one.

Narrow minded - do me a favour mate. I have have owned many cars many more. None of the BM's I have driven has ever convinced me they were worth the extra cash.

This is a MKIV forum, and you want to buy and old BMW. Personally I dislike BMW's, so you wont get any half hearted oh aint it lovely from me. To me it just looks like a three with an ugly body kit. You like it I dont, nothing narrow minded about that. So we both know where we stand. If you can't take peoples opinion then don't ask the question.

I'd still go classic audi rather than bmw

Disagree here. Although I think their old rally cars were pretty stylish (but, sorry, the RS200 is still THE rally car for me :D ), I think the quattro 4WD makes for pretty uninteresting road driving - even compared to BMWs more "refined" RWD.

That said, I've only really had a very quick go with an old Audi - most of my Audi experience is from newer (last 10 years) stuff - - maybe the older ones were more fun?

Before you laugh you might want to actually read up on the E30 yea :stickpoke

i know what the e30 is and is capable of, in fact i really like them. i just found it so funny that someone who doesn't own a supra could imagine "getting bored of the supra experience fairly quickly" and then you implied that the supra wasn't a drivers car. it was very funny :)

personally i would never own a LHD performance car, just taints the experience.

good luck finding a good one.

I owned an Audi S2 the same time as the urq and your right, the old audi was a blast to drive, the S2 was as boring as hell, good car but very very boring.

The RS200 got no where in rallying, it didn't get a chance to prove itself but where it was used IIRC it was surprisingly average.

The Integrale is the rally car for me, it's the car that ended Audi, once entered it one no less than 6 WRC championships, 5 in a row I believe! That's a proper piece of history. Lancia were (still are) the most successful rally team ever, with only toyota of all people coming second!

When Audi did so well it's because they had no proper 4wd competition...

I can't argue with that, although they were properly galavnised bodies and later evos seem to last well, not as rust proof as an audi or a toyota by a long shot - shame :( If you have a nice one these days it's got to be kept garaged and looked after I think.

Got to say I think the M3's a wicked car. As Jeremy Clarckson said about the new M6 a week or two back you'll get respect from people who know their cars and what it is. I know BMW's are all over the place but every once in a blue moon when you see a mint LHD M3 go past it puts a smile on my face.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well....

Anyone watch 5th Gear this week? Had a nice comparison on the M3 and Integrale. To all those saying the E30 was rubbish and how the Lancia was sooo much better, well it was only 2/10ths second slower round the track.

Both cars were pretty slow though compared to modern cars.

True drivers car? who the hell decides this lmao!

I spent my summer taking the piss out of BMW's of all types on the ring and in Germany in general, and boy they like their Supras, I might never be a movie star but driving my late Supra about in that country rocked.

@MATT

If you search for an M3 Evolution, maybe I can help. I was few years ago a big BMW but only one BMW i have kept.

My BMW E36 328 convert to 4.0 V8 from the 540 !!

Many of my old friends are in the BMW Tuning Business and if you search for a LHD car, I can ask some people.

LHD in a Country that drives RHD is No Problem. I drive a RHD RX-7 and next weeks a RHD Supra in a LHD Country.

Only problems are MC Drive and Parkingareas.

Cheers.

Peter

EDIT: Anybody knows the power of the Supra vs Turbo M3
