warning lights

i ve had a look through the search and nothing seems to help me

when driving along and the engine is up to temp and over 2000rpm the engine warning light and the one on the rev counter come on. But about 20-40secs later they go off again and dont normaly come back on till next time i go out in the car again. The fault code it brings up is 42. (No 1 speed sensor)

my speedo and steering do not seem afected as i read it can make the steering go light every thing seems fine apart from the lights on the dash.

The car has been converted from kph to mph and i ve had 140 so prosume it has also had the s[eed limiter removed?

were are these both normal wired? behind the clocks?

Any other help would be much aprsiated:yes:

they are wired behind the clocks matey, behind the odometer to be precise normally.

does sound like that is the culprit.

was that the only code that was brought up? is there a misfire at all?

cant feel any misfire but the revs on tick over can be abit low but just put that down to it needing a servise which i am doing this weekend. no other fault codes just the 42 even disconected the battery to rest the esu to see if that helped seem to make the idle a bit better but still keep getting the fault 42

tickover low COULD be due to ECU reset.

im looking at a members car on saturday with virtually the same problems, going to service, check plugs, coil pack connectors and check codes.

  • 1 month later...
  • 2 weeks later...
  • 5 months later...

it goes to 180.

I had the dash apart today and cant see anything there that shouldnt be. It all looks bone stock.

The clock reads in km still, i tried to see if it was delimited today but ran out of road (not enough power lol) so im assuming it's limited still.

There you go then, if your speedo goes to 180mph you must have a speedo converter fitted. And that will be what is causing your error code 42.

It'll probably be wired into the ECU harness in the passenger footwell.

Check its wiring, especially the earth. Wire the earth wire to a ground point to be sure.

Jake,

I have the exactly same problem with mine, Ro was around mine last night and checked it I get the 42 code too, but my car reads in KM although it has been delimited as I clocked it so many times without it cuts the fuel off .

will get it serviced soon and will defo get it showed aswell to sort that out.

would be always great to have your ideas aswell guys.

What do you mean by "my car reads in KM"?

Does the speedo read in kmh or mph?

Does the speedo go up to 110 or 180?

If 180 is it 180mph or 180kph?

well it came last month from Japan and its normal to read in KM, but I was surprised when it went to 180Km(110m) and much over and didnt cut the fuel comin in the engine as they normally do (like my MR2 in the past) having said that when I clock it or go more than 4K REVs in the 6th the Rev meter doesnt go forward anymore and stock on 4K Revs.

I had Ro with me and he thought that it has been delimited but not converted to MPH yet and the actual delimiter is causing the engine light to come on, I get the 42 Code too.
