richardharmon
Does anyone know where I can get some of those flange plates that go on the ends of the first cat (the one right after the turbo) pipe? I have some 3” stainless pipe and thought I would get the old TIG welder out and make myself a de-cat pipe.
Adam W
Richard - you have a TIG welder???? I am DESPERATELY trying to get hold of one for some time next week to weld up some custom pipework for my big single. If it will run off 240V and you're interested in hiring it to me, let me know. You say you're in cambridge - I'm working in Milton at the moment. I would need it Wednesday and Thursday. If not thin I can go with a MIG setup, but obviously TIG will be better Let me know dude If you can get me drawings for the flanges its possible I could get the guys at work to knock some up for you on the CNC machine. richardharmon
Adam - Unfortunately it’s not my TIG welder, it belongs to my wife’s uncle, and it’s in Birmingham! It’s not exactly transportable either; it’s far too big to go in the car and weighs too much to lift by hand! Where in Milton do you work?
Guest Terry S
Adam, try http://www.JMS-planthire.co.uk we hire bits off them at work. Not sure if they'll have TIG but if they do they are in Harpenden.
Adam W
No worries Rich. I have a Mig welder sorted which will have to do. My man Nick knows his stuff so although it won't be as pretty as TIG the welds should be well up to the job. TIG welder hire will be ~£200 for the week, I could BUY a nice mig setup for that! The workshop here just did me a couple of 316SS T04 flanges and I mentioned the possibility of doing some more . . . Apparently they took eight hours of machining and wore out a fair few quids worth of cutting bits etc They don't fancy doing any more for me for a while! I work on the Milton science park. richardharmon
I have decided to make the plates up myself (should be interesting), does anyone know for sure if both the top and bottom flange plates are the same? I can use the plate on my 2nd cat pipe as a template if they are, only need to take the 1st cat off then when I am ready to make the pipe up. Soonto_HAS_soop
No, they are different (just de-catted mine yesterday). The 2nd cat has the same 2 bolt flanges on either end. THe 1st cat pipe has a 2 bolt flange on the bottom and a three bolt flange on the top - t o attach it to the turbo manifold etc etc. Ben..
