Xenon Bulbs

Recommended Posts

Had a failed fog lamp and got a nice new pair of Xenon H3s for replacement. They made the main beam and dipped lights look yellow they were so white. So checked the bulb type and they were 9006 and 9005 bulbs so went and bought them. But they don't fit, lugs are different to the ones I am replacing and the new ones will not fir unless I "modify" them. Has anyone else had this problem?

Now you can see why I need a manual

LOADS of threads about the difference between the Jap' and UK

bulbs....

BASICALLY the 'peanut' side-light is SAME,

the fog is SAME,

the HIGH-beam is same / but lugs are slightly 'scewed' - can be cut.

BUT the UK dip bulb has a larger round-base bit to it ...

the 9005 has a smaller base, as do BOTH the Jap High & Low...

the 9006 has a larger base and WON'T fit the Jap low holder..

(the 9005 will fit the dip holder - again altering the lugs - but I

personally havn't checked the beam pattern to make sure it's

not TOO high ? ?)

or do a SEARCH for "BULBS"....

[ I'm lookin' for High-Power, or, GOOD Xenon bulbs for the High/Low

beams at the moment....

ie. 9005's (use 'em in High and Low ? !)

the only ones I've found so far are:

Halfrauds do a 'BLUEY' bulb 9005, but they also do the new +50%

Xenons..... only NOT in 9005 ... yet?

and those bulb specialists Paue/Piau/P*** well, it's P something ?

THEY do they're 9005's that supposedly run at ~55w but

"give the light" of about 120w equivalent ? ! ? Don't see what the

hell THAT's supposed to mean ?

AND, they're more like ~£40/50 rather than ~£15 for the Xenons.

Let me know if you find any brighter/higher 9005's....

I think ALL Soop owners would be interested ? ?:p

INTERESTINGLY - mentioning the HID's again.....

We had a "Hella" newsletter round this week, gives latest 'pattern'

headlight/indicator etc releases..

and it has a little Q & A section.

One Q was "how do I get brighter headlights......."

The answers were (DERRRRR) use brighter bulbs ie. Xenon/Blue etc

OR, get HID light system.

The interesting bit was, Hella said you must ONLY use HID on dip

(think I'd heard that) / they MUST have an AUTOMATIC self-levelling

system ? ? / they MUST have a WASHING system ? ?

I KNOW the levelling bit's been said before.... don't remember the

washing bit :conf:

maybe THAT'S why it's only on top-of-the-range cars ?

I must check to see if all HID new cars have washers ? ?

FatS.

[ ps. I don't have THAT sort of cash for just dip headlights !

far more worthy causes:p ... plus, I don't really want all that

extra wiring/transformers under the bonnet... it all confuses the

F**K out of me as it is ! ! - just some brighter bulbs will do nicely ]

So in other words.............

Can only be fitted to a UK spec car easily. :p

Admittedly it's not self levelling (which i think is a legal requirement) but it could be made self levelling.

I think the self levelling bit would only really be nessasary with cars that would take a load in the boot or towing neither of which would really be applicable to the supra, you cant get sod all in the boot, sod all on the back seats and they dont recommend towing (in the manual they have a pic of a caravan with a line through it!)

  • 2 weeks later...

From the info I have got here they go straight in to the UK spec car, 1 x 9006, 1 x 9005. I have a Jap Spec car and had to use 2 x 9005 and trim the lugs to the same as the bulbs I was replacing, not difficult

Actually, now that you mention it - I've never seen a car without HIDs not have washers. The washers on the lexus are the coolest toy ever, extend about 10cm from the car, wash the car (a bit does go on the lights mind ;) ) and the retract
